This may sound like an odd question but I was wondering if there was an appropriate time to ask a prov to be a reference for you.  Is it advisable to frequent a prov for a little while before asking?

You may ask at any time after your first visit. Always let the provider know that you are using her for a reference. If I get a call out of the blue from someone claimimg to be a provider, and the client has not mentiioned this to me, I will not give a reference. It could be the wife or SO calling. As long as My clients call or send an email to let me know, I am happpy to give references.

You can ask after the session but I think it is better when the situation comes up. If you need a reference ask her if it is OK to use her. Most providers will be OK with it as long as you ask first.

Its absolutely ok.  I know I'm not offended when my clients ask.  We all need to be safe and work together :)

I usually let someone know after we've met if I'll vouch for him as a reference. But I do ask that:

- The client not ask me to vouch for him if it's been over a year since we last saw each other. Six months is pushing it. Most ladies will only accept recent references anyway.

- He doesn't use me as a reference over and over and over and over. Acting as a reference is a favor; don't abuse it!

There are many of us who are reference friendly and those that aren't.  In order to get the most out of the appts early in your hobby career, ask the provider you are considering if she is reference friendly.  If not, perhaps you still want to see her but a bit later when you have a good resume of 3 or 4 girls who will provide references.

I generally ask as we are saying our "goodbyes".  Sometimes the lady will initiate the subject.

"when the situation comes up"?
I can't imagine any other situation than me just flat out asking her.  How else would it come up?
