Boston guy, you could have written your answer in the subject line, eliminating the need for clicking.

have the yellow envelope next to your handle. People can PM you but you will not receive it. Not sure if you will get the PMs sent while VIP was lapsed after you renew.

So, if you send someone a PM and you receive no response, it's possible their VIP lapsed. At least that's what I keep telling myself -- "It's not you, Big Papasan, their VIP lapsed."
