What are they like? Are they all p4p or a social gathering for future adventures?

you can talk to the ladies and possibly set something up for the future, or maybe after the party.  In reality, the party is nothing more than a cocktail party with a twist, all the attendees are providers and hobbyists.  Usually, the guys pay to cover the cost of the party, and the girls get in free.
