hi everyone. i'm completely new to this but have been curious for a long time but have been too afraid to try. i basically don't know a thing about this but would love to finally try it. any pointers for a beginner?

read the self help section.  Then read back on the Newbie board until you can answer every question yourself.  That will give you a good background education.   By all means check out the other boards as well as there are things to be learned in all of them.
No one can do it for you.  You must read it through your eyes & your life circumstances & see what works for you.  
You need to learn about:
screening
the 2 call system
what is expected of a gentleman
what to say & what will get you hung up on or get you shown the door
how to place a donation
how to avoid scams
what is a "well reviewed lady"
how to use the search feature
why you need VIP (it costs less than even one spoiled meeting)
private e-mail
hobby phones
not accessing adult sites from work equipment or work internet access

Do your homework on the lady, etc.

Screening is crucial for us and our comfort and should be for him as well.  If you are uncomfortable, providing information there are other routes...like the verification sites.

However, still be prepared to provide some information until you get quite a few references.
