Seeking insight from those in the know...

I suspect the norms in UK differ from those in US.  Sticking with the few in London who are TER-reviewed would be one solution.  But what if I want to explore the multitude not reviewed on TER?  Are there some general "rules of thumb" about how to approach things in London?

1) Agencies vs indies?
2) Avoiding fakes & rip-offs?
3) Accuracy of photos on agency/indie web sites?
4) Other tips...?

Thx.

My friends in London accurately predicted my first time there, I would do some "aimless wandering" as opposed to the great places they were able to show me and take me to.

In that category one of the things I found rewarding to do was to get on a double decker and let it take me to outlying towns/villages where a quick walk around, a stop at a local pub or restaurant could deliver a unique flavor, some good food, and tips and insights from the locals.

I understand this may not be your first time and you are asking for hobby advice in London that I'll leave to people who can give it.

I recommend going into a book store and looking at:

Slow Walks in London: A Visitor's Companion by Michael Leitch
London's Best Kept Secrets by Michael Michaelson
Born to Shop London by Suzy Gershman and Judith Thomas
The Book of London: The Evolution of a Great City Edited by Michael Leapman
Philip's London: Architecture, History, Art
