As far as the OP posts, from a hobbyists, point of view, I can usually find someone to see that's an 8/8 or above in all the cities I travel for business. Are you talking about places to travel to or do you plan to relocate.
If I were taking a job in a different area I would consider other factors. The cost of living: why earn more if I have to spend that much more on a place to live? What about distance from family and friends? Do you want to live in a warm climate? Do you want to live in a liberal or conservative part of the country if that matters to you? What are your other interests?
What about California between LA and SF?
I am from a New England where you could drive an hour to a new place to work for a you few days and expand your client base.
You could make visits to areas you are considering

From a client perspective I have thought about the Carolinas, Atlanta, Denver, Orlando, Tampa, Phoenix, Portland as places I would like to visit.
