IM acronym?

What does the IM acronym mean?  I see it a lot on the discussion boards.  I figured out what PM means (Private Message), but can't figure out what IM stands for.  It is used in the context of communication like email.

Thank you frankie2003a.  Seems like Instant Messaging is used frequently.  I've been trying to avoid it, but it looks like I'm going to have to set one up now.
