If you were tasting the "remains"

and the wine was not properly decanted you were probably tasting the sediment at the bottom of the bottle.

It also is all a matter of taste. I for one don't like the big California reds, I would much rather drink a twenty dollar bottle of an Oregon Pinot Noir than a bottle of Opus one, just my personal preference. OTOH I'll kill for a 66 Chateau Lafitte Rothchild. lol

I was wondering if where your employed matters.  Do providers refuse to see somebody that works at a restaurant, like me?  Or are they okay with it, if you have the money?

I assume it depends on the provider, but almost every ad or website says the ladies are looking for upscale gentlemen?  Is there any hope for a working class guy like me?

and there might be a few other places that might raise a red flag.

Tell them you work at a restaurant, would be happy to bring along something yummy to snack on in between the first round and the second... and you'll be just fine.

Upscale gents as I would like to think I am, the main reason why this is included is men can afford the recommended rate.  Other reasons might be we are more genteel, more respectful to the lady.  This is not to say that Joe the plumber can't be, he can.  He can afford the rate also.  Its just as the hobby becomes more addictive the more money is needed to maintain this lifestyle. I won't be spending the families' food money, or mortgage on the hobby.  It seems that every lady takes time to address the issue of asking for a reduced rate.  Guys with money don't try this, as a rule.......

Providers that include this in their ad are trying to convey one of a few things:

[Obviously, these are complete generalizations]
If her rate is less than $200/hr, she is simply copying what she saw on other ads.  She doesn't really care.

If her rate is between $200/hr and $1000/hr, she is simply saying, "Please bring the correct amount of money and don't try to negotiate."  Otherwise, she could care less what you do for a living as long as you are timely, polite, and clean.

If her rate is over $1000/hr, then maybe she really is looking for that Wall Street Millionaire.

Huh?

I hope you are not actually trying to imply that an under $200/hr provider is lacking in intelligence, caring and/or forethought. I also hope that you are not trying to imply that it is somehow acceptable to negotiate if rates are under $200/hr or that it would be OK to rip her off by not bringing the correct amount.

I know I'm still a newbie at this hobby but I've lurked and researched for a year...just common sense for them to say that to weed out the bums and the dreggers...the low-lifes who could be any number of undesierable things.

These ladie's are NOT $50 dates and they just want to be sure us guys know that.

You can buy a bottle of wine for $5 or $500.  The latter is obviously WAY bettter.

Actually, the more expensive bottle isn't always better.  I had the opportunity to taste the remains of a $1,500 bottle of wine at a restaurant one night.  It tasted quite a bit like dirt to me.  I much preferred the $35 bottle I had with my date.

I think you can say the same thing for providers.  More expensive is not always better.  It depends on the lady and your particular taste.

and orders the 1928 Mouton.

The waiter returns with a bottle full of wine, pours a small amount in the glass for tasting. The customer picks up the glass, smells the wine, and puts it down on the table with a thud.

'This is not the 1928 Mouton.'

The waiter assures him it is, and soon there are another twenty people surrounding the table including the chef and the manager trying to convince the man that the wine is the 1928 Mouton. Finally someone asks him how he knows that it is not the 1928 Mouton.

'My name is Phillipe de Rothschild, and I make the wine.'

Finally, the original waiter steps forward and admits that he poured the Clerc Milon 1928.

"I could not bear to part with our last bottle of 1928 Mouton. You know Clerc Milon, it is in the same village as Mouton, you pick the grapes at the same time, the same cepage, you crush in the same way, you put them
into similar barrels. You bottle at the same time, you even use eggs from the same chickens to fine them. The wines are the same, except for a small matter of geographic location."

Rothschild beckons the waiter forward, and whispers to him,'When you return home tonight, ask your girlfriend to remove her underwear. Put one finger in one opening, another finger in the other, then smell both the fingers. You will understand what difference a small distance in geographic location makes."

I asked the waiter that offered to let us taste it.  He said, "Hell No!"  With a bottle that expensive, they always decant properly.  Actually, he said he didn't care for the bottle either.

Now, I am with you on the Pinot Noir versus the big Cab.  My only real problem is that I once had the chance to taste a Pommard that was WELL outside my personal price range (~$600).  Unfortunately, it was extraordinary  :(

I was REALLY hoping I wouldn't like it.  That way I could be satisfied with my $21 Saintsbury Garnet.  Alas, sometimes you DO get what you pay for.
