I have noticed a few providers who are in my state as well as others that advertise in the regional ad board stating they have reviews then post the link. The link is to ter reviews yet not connected to their handle. I have asked a couple of them why that is and have not gotten any responses.

Can someone here to explain why this might be or why they choose to do this? And at least two of these cases the providers had well over 50 reviews so they were not new. I'm just curious plus if someone gives me their contact info for a reference I'm not sure I would feel comfortable accepting that reference.

to their reviews. TER will not do it by themselves.

There is a good chance a provider is not aware that she can link her handle to her reviews. Another reason is it might be an assistant using her own personal handle to place an ad on behalf of a particular provider she represents. In such a case, a provider's profile can't be linked to the handle of her assistant.

Agencies have their own profile template. In the case of an agency, their handle can be linked to their profile which contains a listing and links to reviews of all providers they represent.

Other reasons exist and my guess is as good as yours.

Maybe they never asked because they don't know they have to, or maybe for whatever reason, they don't want it linked.

Not only do providers have to request their reviews be linked to their handle, they have to ask for the limited VIP membership as well.  This is all explained in the self help center.

As already mentioned, they may not be aware of the rules about linking, they may not want it, or the assistant reason that was said.  One other thing, they may not even be aware that they have reviews on TER if they are new to the biz.

Many women post under one name and have reviews under another... that is done all the time. It's so they can post and that name won't be linked back to their reviews once they retire. If the email on the profile matches that of the provider, the handle does not have to be the same thing. When I first joined, my posting name was xoxo_ fill in the blank, but my review name was different. Same first name, but also had a last name. I asked TER to change that for the posts, but it's not mandatory.

Why might someone not want to do that?

If they are putting up ads and posting a link to their reviews then why not just connect the two? And I'm not speaking of just new providers. I would think that if someone has been around for 2 or 3 years then they would know that they could have done that. My question is why.
