First, is that accurate?

Second, how do they get away with it, with so many girls located in major cities (i.e., nearby) charging less than a third of that?  You'd think that b/c escorts are usually prettier, closer to home, and working illegally, that THEY would be the more expensive option (along the same lines of why pot is expensive:  it's illegal).

There is a "menu" of costs and services at brothels, but generally prices are negotiable.  The women try to get as much as they can out of their customers because they have to pay room and board as well as a percentage of their fees to the brothel owner.  Men may overpay so they can brag to their friends that they went to The Bunny Ranch.

It's silly to go to brothels when we have TER.  You can get a reliable provider to come to your hotel room rather than drive an hour outside Vegas for overpriced providers.

I went there a number of times before I was familiar with other options. First, the hush hush about their prices is due to the law. It is illegal for the girls to discuss price anywhere but their private room. They won't even talk about it with you sitting in the parlor face to face. Yes, the prices are higher than escorts but I believe they make less per date because of the house split and fees but they do gain a lot of advertising on their behalf and probably have teh option for higher volume. What you gain as a client is knowing you aren't going to get busted or hassled by a pimp and also have the assurance that it is mandatory for them to have weekly exams and monthly (but maybe weekly, cant  remember for sure) blood tests. Some of the houses are essentially locked down and the girls are not  free to come and go as they please. That bothers me. Any of Dennis Hoff's houses are not run that way (he has four, I have been to two). I always had a great time there and will probably go again when I am local to it.

I know of several girls there who quote $2000 an hour which would be gfe with msog and everything is covered. But that is the beginning of a negotiation. My first trip, yes I paid $1500 but I didn't know any better. As a repeat customer, I am generally in the $700 range for the more popular ladies and the newer  girls could be much cheaper once they know you are a repeat. Dennis strongly encourages them to cultivate repeat customers. I have never done parties shorter than an hour but many of the folks go for short parties with multiple ones per visit. That seems to be the preference of the locals who can pop in at will. They will visit on an evening with a theme party of some type and make an evening of it. The ladies are a blast to hang with in the parlor and are very interactive and flirty as long as they assume you still have cash to spend. I have never done an overnight there but have been quoted both $6000 and $5000 and it would include limo service to and from airport, room and meals and a visit from a second girl of my choice. You also have the option of an outdate if you want to get your own room. They will go with you anywhere within the state of Nevada but cannot cross state lines. The $6000 offer is from a top tier lady who generally charges upwards of $10,000 to a newb. They often do 2 girls with no price increase as a way to help each other out. It is expensive but the experience is overall worth it. They also have many theme parties a year and weekly karaoke (sp) that is a total hoot!

Nor am I attacking the government for regulating things - that's what the government does.  I simply pointed out that it is "regulated" by the government, and generally, as with anything else, if it's regulated by the government, it's usually more expensive and lower quality.  

You correctly point out in your post why the cost is higher - and it all has to do with the government regulation.

As far as bragging rights - I'm not sure how much guys "brag" about fucking hookers, but for what you pay in a brothel, you could do sessions with pics with a LOT of smokin' hot girls in LV.

I have not attacked the government.  I have not said that there is anything at all wrong with government regulation - I simply point out that it makes things more expensive than if they are not regulated.  That is simply an economic fact whether you are far, far, far right or far, far, far left or right in the middle.  

It doesn't take a PHd in econ to figure out that if you are paying people to watch over something and regulate it, that it's going to cost more.  

There are many, many things that the government regulates that most of us want regulated by the government and we are willing to collectively pay the higher price for that regulation - hookers, in my opinion, is just not one of those things.

But, if you want your hookers to be government regulated hookers, go to the brothels at have a fuckin' blast.

The legal brothels attract business because they are..well...legal.  Lots of guys who will go to a legal brothel would never think to go online and book an appointment with an independent escort.  There is an element of the male population that is far too intimated by the legal ramifications of hobbying.  These are the guys who go to the legal brothels or spend thousands in strip clubs trying to get a dancer to either screw them in the VIP room or go home with them.  They just don't know any better nor do they want to...

Do a search using "brothels"  as subject, go back 360 days or more and you'll find numerous threads. For many,  it's a bucket list item, simply something they're wanting to check off.  Many first time brothel visitors, have never heard of TER and have no idea what the costs should be.  Just bring your best negotiating skills if you decide to visit

At one time, my ignorant ass went to the bunny ranch, and basically got ripped off.  I have no one but myself to blame, because I was ignorant.  I simply didn't know about TER and verification services such as Rs2K and P411.  When I think of all the money I could have saved, and the better services I could have received, I want to kick myself for being so ignorant!  I'm just thankful I discovered the TER and the verification services when I did, because I don't want to be tempted to waste any more money at those brothels.  Oh well, no need to beat myself up about it.  That's water under the bridge.  Live and learn.

There's another thing I don't like about the Nevada brothels, and it's something that came up for discussion on the GD board.  There are plenty of hobbyists and providers who are not angels, but through my experience and that of others, many of these brothel owners and madams are mean spirited people.  Also, there is lot of fighting between the providers at these places, because of the competition and the urgency to make a buck.

So, in conclusion, yes, you don't have to worry about being busted or being beaten up by a pimp, but I wouldn't recomment the Nevada brothels.  They're not worth it.

If by government regulation, you mean the criminal code, then sure the brothel pricing is a product of prostitution being illegal in LV. Change that and suddenly no price would be low enough for most of the brothels to survive.

If by free, unregulated market, you mean a utopian fantasy that does not exist in any market, sure you win. Your utopia would be better, by definition. Though if I am going to fantasize, I will not waste my dreams on government regulation. Too boring. But to say that a free market would result in different, lower pricing is like saying that if the sun did not rise tomorrow the price of space heaters would go up. It may be true but it is so completely unrealistic as to not be worth considering. If it happened, this would be a completely different world.

As to whether government regulation inevitably leads to higher prices, etc, that simply is not true. An efficient marketplace requires a certain framework to operate within and typically that framework is created by rules and regulations. Remove that framework and we get all sorts of articifically inflated prices, monopolies, and other manipulation. All regulation is not bad, and removing regulation is not always good, and certainly does not always result in lower prices. That is a very effective myth perpetuated mostly by business and used to fight unwanted regulation. I benefit from that myth every day, but I have not forgotten that it is a convenient myth. it does seem that many people have lost sight of this, including many who should know better.

I will grant you this - some portion of what the brothels charge goes for taxes and other governmental fees. Unless you are proposing a world where all personal income tax is eliminated, I am willing to bet those other taxes and fees are not more than 10% of the total price, so they come nowhere near explaining the cost differential.

They are just charging what the market will bear. My view of why guys will pay so much is a little different - you drive all that distance to get laid and you are offered a price, say $1k for an hour with a pretty little thing. The only alternative is to skip the whole thing and drive back without getting laid, and who is going to do that? The little head has been looking forward to his party, and the big head is going to feel dumb either way, so you might as well have some fun. And maybe she started really high so you could negotiate her down a littlel, feeling like you got some sort of bargain.

The key concept here is simply this - is government regulation a component in the cost, and thus the pricing, of products and services? Sure. Is it a significant factor? Very, very rarely. But there is no downside to blaming the government and potentially a lot of benefit, so everyone does it. (And I am not arguing the government is smart, always good, or that all regulation is good, hell no! Just that a well informed, balanced view says that it will depend on the situation and the regulation).

Girls offer their services at a particular rate.  Guys bid for their services at a particular rate.  When the two intersect, there is a transaction.

So if the Vegas brothels are charging that and getting that, there is some kinda demand for it.

Maybe they are the guys who know nothing about TER and are willing to pay full-price for everything.

I mean, you can make the argument for car service, too.  You can always take it to the dealer and get charged the full offer side, or you can take it to an independent mechanic who will charge a fraction.

In both cases, you need to do a shitload of due diligence to ascertain what you are getting in your different options.  It's no different here.

The very fact of the matter is that information in this hobby is opaque.  And that keeps the bid/ask spread (the difference between what the buyers wanna pay and where the sellers wanna sell) wide.

I have been visiting Reno for the past decade (to see my brother) and never been to a ranch. I've been to strip clubs over there and been with providers in other cities, but just not Reno. This year I was so tempted and foolishly blinded that I started to contact some of the ladies at various of them. Then I remembered the blessed TER. I started doing some research and found out how much overpriced the services are at those places. Not to count all the facts that all of you already mentioned. So, in conclusion, please continue discouraging me of going to those places and finding a nice, classy and intelligent provider instead. Thus, I'll still have enough money to buy myself that watch I have always wanted, what do you think?
