And I don't like the word in this scenario ......

Hobby is a luxury. If you're fucking with the basic subsistence of your household then you're irresponsible to say the least.

So how do all of you married guys hide the $$$ from your wives that you're paying the providers with?

Let's assume the worst case.  You have no access to cash and your wife checks the whereabouts of every nickle you bring home.

Start to think about what you already pay for with cash, and whether or not you can do without that cash expenditure any longer and use it for the hobby.

Take lunch, as an example.  Let's say you go out and spend $15 a day for a nice lunch.  Could you do with a $5 sandwich instead?  That's $5/day or $25/week or $105 a month.  In two or three months you will have saved up enough for a one hour date.

Maybe you can do this with dry cleaning, etc.

The trick is to do things gradually so no one notices.

but... its kind of silly to me for anyone to let themselves exist under such circumstances. Many men and women for  whatever reason give up control of their personal finances. I make my money and contribute what is necessary,  and then some to the household. The rest is mine.

whether what you earn puts the household in an "excess" status or a subsistence one.  The closer to subsistence the harder it is to work the model you propose.

And since I'm self employed and write myself checks from my business, I just take out part of my paycheck as cash when I go to the bank to deposit it. My paychecks vary a lot, and what I take out is just a small percentage.

I've heard that using the debit card to make purchases helps.  Like going to Target for supplies and getting some cash back.  That way it just appears as a single charge at Target on the bank statement.  Add up the cash and voila!

Be Aware though... I just looked at my bank statement from Chase bank this month (get paper one cuz its a biz account)
It showed the total amount taken out of the bank via debit and then underneath the transaction it split the purchase amount and cash back. It looked like this

Purchases: $35.92  Cash Back: $40.00

Just as Mr. Fisher says...look at what you use your cash on.  If you draw out money weekly, just put some of that away.  Depending on much that is it can actually add up quickly.

Some guys have set up separate accounts and set up a separate deposit to another bank...they set it up in conjunction with a pay raise so as to not set off any home alarms.

As with everything else with this hobby....YMMV and don't get stupid.

I just stash the left overs until I have enough.  I do not make withdrawals to match with my time AWOL.

I have a side business which I use some of the profits.  I just have to be careful if my SO suddenly becomes interested in what I was making.  She does not have access to the business checking account.  I also receive a monthly commission from my day job, which I deposit into the business account and then transfer most of it to our joint checking account after I have taken less cash out.  My problem is limiting to how much I spend each month.  It has not even been a month yet, okay 21 days and I have spent $ 1100 on two providers and one fbsm.  Need self control!!
