Good advice so far

Hi, newbie here who very much would like go get into the hobby and has religiously read the newbie FAQ. Etc...

My problem is this: I am generally BAD on the phone, the guy who leaves rambling 3 minute voicemails. I have no references, thus will try my luck at independents as you guys have suggested.

But what should my very first line be? "I'd like to book an appointment for tonight"?  Tell them my name? Say I'm a newbie?  I could really use some advice on how to introduce myself. I don't know how men who are new to the hobby are just 'supposed to know' how to do this...

Thanks for anyone who takes the time to respond to a newbie post like this.

I usually say something like "Hi, my name is {insert name} and I saw your ad on {wherever you saw her ad} and I was wondering if we can discuss making arrangements to get together sometime soon."

For you, I'd add "I haven't done this before so I was wodering how you handle first timers."  If you have a non-aliased handle here that you've posted under, I'd provide that voluntarily to her...some ladies will look at posts to get a feel for you and that may help considering you're a newbie with no references.

She may shut you down at that point if she asks for references and you have none.  If she does, be polite, thank her for her time, then move on.

Good luck!!

"Hello, my name is (your name),,,,,I'm calling for (her name). Do you have any open appointments for (date/time)?"

Just say "Hi, I'm [yourname]. I saw your Ad [where ever you did]. I think that you are very elegant and classy. I am interested in a date. Since this is my first time, please excuse me if I say something incorrectly. Can you please tell me a little bit about yourself and how can we meet."  I think this should get the conversation started. You might want to ask if she has an e-mail address and if so, can you communicate that way. My first date, which funny enough has not yet happened, started via an e-mail written in this manner. As long as you are polite and do not use any explicit terms, you should do okay. Hope this helps.

where you saw her ad  (backpage, cityvibe, eros etc)  do not mention anything to do with SEX.  BTW I used to make tons of cold calls over the phone, having a script isn't a bad idea if you get flustered easy. You might contact the lady by email if there is an email address in the ad.
Good luck

Hi (insert her name here) I saw your ad at XXXX and have visited your website too.  Besides your pretty face, I was attracted to your (insert whatever it was here-but don't say tits...please say something like interest in wine or charity work, sense of humor, taste in clothing but be genuine).

I am new at this so please excuse me for being nervous.  I'd like to know if you are free for an hour on Thursday afternoon at about 1PM?

She will take it from there.

lol, I am so glad you ask this question, this could be a "make or break moment" in deciding whether or not you get an appointment. I prefer that you introduce yourself and tell me where you saw my ad. Basic telephone etiquette is all you need.
Just an example of a few callers who heard an immediate click, these are just a few of the first liners I heard today:
"Hey, where's your incall"
"How much do you charge"
"What do you do"
"I wanna come see you now, baby"
"I'm calllin bout your hot sexy ass"
Any line such as those abouve and I hang up right away.
Main thing is, be respectful and courteous. I can differentiate between newbie nervousness or just plain stupidity.

Agree.  I've learned to hang up on any of the above.  Also, I'm starting to be able to separate the tire kickers from the truly interested.

Hey Clock, if you wanna practice, give me a call, lol, it'll be a lesson for us both!  ;)

Thanks so much.  This whole thread has been enormously helpful.

I was thinking of also saying something like "I'm willing to provide whatever information necessary to make you feel comfortable". Is that an ok line (I mean it's pretty much true) or does it sound too desperate? Is it weird to offer access to your facebook page? Just a random idea i had...

In any case I plan on making first contact this weekend. Thanks again all for the help and wish luck.

When you want something from customer service, you talk friendly to them.

Same here.

Just like others have said, you give who you are, you mention their name, and where you saw them.  Then, what you want (discreetly) to accomplish.

Don't go overboard.  Don't give first and last name, and address, and offer too much.  If she wants to know, she'll ask you.

Hi Daphne, I'm Scooby. (Whew, that part's done.)

I saw your ad in TER, and I am interested.
How do I go about getting an appointment with you?

(whew!  Asked a question, let her lead from  here.  Whatever she asks, just think of it as a transaction, about cars, or insurance, or girlscout cookies)

If she asks your age, just answr.  If she asks if you have references, say no, not yet, this is your first time.  If they ask for your address and credit card number with security code....  well, be careful!

Best of luck, and enjoy.

When I was a newbie 3 months ago, I responded by email explaining I had no references.  This was much easier then talking on the phone.
She responded with verification of employment and full name.

Get Date-check or 411 verified. This helps as well.

Most providers greatly prefer email anyways.

But in any case, much good advice has been given out here.

Here's one to consider:

Do you own a tape recorder?  If so, practice your spiel into it and then play it back.  Are you intelligible?  If not, slow down and practice again.

One particularly irksome habit that I find on voice mails (I get nearly 50 a day at work some days.) is people who rush through their phone number as if it were an Olympic event.  Say the numbers as slowly as if you were writing them out; which is what the person listening to this will be doing.

Remember this famous saying also:

You get only one chance in life to make a first impression.

When a guy offers too much information it makes me nervous, I prefer that you just introduce yourself, tell me where you saw my ad, what day and time you would like to schedule and I'll take it from there. Other providers may feel differently.
You are smart enough to be concerned about this, so I am sure you will do just fine.

That's the best way to get the ball rolling. Offer up all the information that the lady requires. Yes, tell her that you are a newbie, and that you are nervous. Hell, I still get nervous as hell when I'm going to meet or even contact a new friend. A few emails, and you'll be surprised how much easier the phone call will be. These ladies are exceptional at calming your nerves.

I would suggest you email first. That gives the girl time to look up everything possible about you. (what sites you're on, where you work, if you've been verified, your reviews, etc) I respond to emails 100 times more than phone calls.

I booked with a super lady last month completely via email. The phone never came into the picture until I was ready to knock on her door. (I know she was super 'cause I keep thinking about her and the session! Not enough to keep me from seeing the next lady though.)

But the first couple of providers I booked with were phone-only; and I was really nervous about it too.

Here was my solution: I made a script, like a telemarketer.

"Hi Miss So and So, I'm Mr. Whatshisname (real name), I'd like to schedule a session."

Then there was an already-written script for the voicemail.

"Hi so and so I'm whatshisname. I'd like to schedule a session with you on Wednesday at around 11am. You can reach me at XXX-XXX-XXXX between the hours of X and Y, please feel free to leave a message and I'll get back to you."

Rehearse the scripts a few times so you can sound confident because there are few more attractive qualities in a man than confidence.

the lady can read your request (Are you available for a 1-hr. outcall appointment on Thursday, August 33rd at 8 pm?  I will have a hotel room in the airport area.)

If you call and she doesn't answer, you have accomplished nothing.
