Exception to the rule...

I want to do an overnight with a lady I have seen and had a blast with. I called her and she told me in a nice way that she would require what comes out to about 7.5% of the fee for her to book me in advance because she has expenses booking a large time slot. Is this unusual or the norm? I can see her point and am going to do it but just wanted your thoughts.

I know that some will probably say that it's okay as long as the provider is well reviewed, but I disagree.
I have heard many a story about deposits not being returned, even when the provider cancels. If you cancel, forget it. You will probably never see it again.
If you have already seen her, she should forgo the deposit nonsense.

the only reason for deposit is an extended date.  You've done it right, as you've already seen her.  I realize this is "just" an overnight but  Have you gone over how much sleep time is included?  Personal time?

Have a great time.

I don't see women that require a deposit. Anything can happen and the date could cancel.

It's from noon till midnight, no napping. We have plans that I went over with her. Thanks

Most ladies I've seen (myself included) ask for 25-50%, regardless of what their rates are. I only ask for them for my longer (overnight plus) or travel dates; as you mentioned, it's a huge chunk of time I'm setting aside, and I often will rearrange my "real life" schedule to accommodate. A deposit gives us BOTH a hefty incentive to do our best not to cancel.

Whether or not you should give a lady deposit depends on trust (Is she dependable, or has she been known to cancel frequently? Is she established?), your own schedule (Can your schedule change with little notice, causing you to potentially forfeit your deposit?), and your financial flexibility (If it's going to be a huge loss if she flakes out, don't do it.)

I'd advise asking her what will happen if either of you need to cancel. Will she refund the deposit, keep some of it, keep it for a future date? You really can't plan too carefully. :)

As much as I hate agreeing with others, I must admit Carrie made a valid point here. Like the provider said, you're booking her for a night sesson/several hours. If you bail, then she just lost whatever money she COULD have made on that day unless clients book her on short notice. My guess is she'll keep that deposit if you're a no show. I know I would if I were her.

The ladies that are reliable and reputable aren't going to burn you.  If you have seen her before, it's to you to decide whether the arrangement she is proposing is acceptable.  7.5% is a small percentage...I've seen situations where 50% is required.
