Question is.. how does one find the few hours needed to "play" when you have a SO?  
I'm thinking :
1) playing golf (but that cancels any nite time events
2) business meeting
3) during the work day

thoughts and opinions are totally welcomed.

Most of my playtime is when I'm travelling, so it's not too difficult for me to tack on an extra day, or plan my trips over a weekend. I know that's not a viable option for a lot of guys, but I'm sure you'll get some creative alternatives here.

keep your "excuses" as real and plausible as possible, minimize the amount of a lie into an "embellishment" so its easier to remember.

a) Your taking a client / vendor / boss / employee to dinner to discuss whatever is relevant.

b) You have to travel to another location / territory to observe operations, fix a problem / put out a fire. (even if its just the other side of town) the "drive" buys you more time.

c) You need independent hobbies / friends ie poker night or bowling with the "guys" can offer you a chance to "skip" or the excuse time ran over.

d) Visit a "therapist" of some sort - you can even say this is a new policy with your job.

e) Create an "emergency" ie flat tire / ran out of gas / locked keys in the car, etc.  Say you'll just  wait for AAA since the fuck up is your fault.

f) Start complaining about some new reports needed for work and how they are gonna take more time to do them, and they stay late at work to do them.

Also, always TEST your excuse the first time or two with something "real" that you can easily cover or validate just to gauge her reactions.

trying to figure this out today!?! Good luck! Really, to hazard a guess would require more information about your SO, and your relationship with her. How trustful or distrustful is she, in general, and with you specifically. How much does she know about your life outside your relationship, and previous to it.

If you don't want to arouse too much suspicion it's best to stick with something plausible for your situation. Do you ever work late? Go out with friends to sports bars? Have any hobbies that you do without your SO?

You should also think about you state of mind when you return home. On my first adventure, I was a bit worried that I could then go home with the proverbial straight face. For that reason I planned it while travelling, so I would have a day to recover, and really we how I felt about the whole thing in the morning. I have now visited a couple of ladies locally, and during the day is fine, as a couple of hours of work after gets me straight before going home. I have done one evening thing on home turf, and I just had a business reason to stay near the office all night. There is no way I could go straight from a session home. The big grin and freshly fucked glow would give me away. My SO also has a very keen sense of smell, and even a good scubbing after is not safe. Better to add a trip to the gym or maybes nice cigar first.

Develop interest in fishing. Fish different areas,tournaments etc.

Leave looking like you're going fishing. Show up to your date not looking like your going fishing. Then, showing up back at home looking and smelling like you've just been fishing. Sounds like a good gym membership will be needed to make it work.

I can get time off during the day.  
I'm careful to eat in the usual resturant, buy gas in my normal traffic pattern, do not use a CC anywhere I'm not supposed to be.  

I suggest more than one cover story devolupe over time.

Just say as you leave the house in the morning:

"I'll be back a few hours late tonight because I have a date to screw a real hot chick."

Then run out the door.

She'll either shake her head smiling or run over to the Yellow Pages and look up a lawyer.

whatever you do just don't do anything out of the ordinary. Don't make up an excuse like i'm working late when you never worked late before. It just has to be believeable.

If you're going to hobby...  learn to be less predictable.  If you "leave work" at 5...  don't always show up at home at 5:32.  Be flexible.  Get gas.  Run an erand.  Stop at the gym.  Get a McSnack.  Give someone a ride home.  BS with the guys.

If you're going to hobby... Don't make ATM withdrawals just for that!  Increase the "pocket cash" you carry each week (inflation you know).  Tuck the surplus safely out of sight & withdraw again...  accumulate until you have enough.  Do this all the time so ATM use can not be linked to time off.  

Do NOT use your regular cell phone (records are forever).  Figure out where to keep a hobby phone, keep it off & locked when not in use.

If you have an Easy Pass...  avoid tolls for places you should not be.  Probably no one would bag you over this but if suspected it would confirm to hang your *ss.

I suggest that you not use someone else for an alibi.  A secret is only a secret when one person knows.  (I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you.)  Generally, you should never reveal the hobby to even your best friend.  You never know how they'll react.  Or who they might spill it too if they have a few too many, etc.  
As a matter of fact, I accidentally bagged my cheating ex by going over to her girlfriend's house & she was not there!      

When I started, I promised I'd not do anything "stupid"...  I was lucky.  I realize now that I was not as careful as I should have been.  Luck is not to be counted on!

A lot of the advice is doing things with Other people, friends.  Man for me that's a no no.  Think everything out.  Once you do it once or twice you start to ease up....DONT.
