I had considered the "burner phone" alternative, but decided the risk of having to explain an extra phone to the wife, on the off chance I forgot to lock it up once, was too great. My wise favorite provider told me about Google Voice. I installed it on my phone, used it to claim another phone number and now no more provider numbers for texts or the very rare phone call show up on my phone records. Not a perfect solution, but it works for me and it is free!
Having a burner cell phone is very very important! It would be unwise to book appointments and communicate with a provider using your home phone or a cell phone with your name attached to it. SO's and girlfriends can get a hold of phone records and once that happens, you're up the creek with no paddle!
If you don't have a cell phone and if something happens en route to the provider and you're unable to make it to her, how is she supposed to know that you couldn't make it?
Back in 2007, I was supposed to meet up with a client during the day. He said he hated cell phones and would pick me up near my house. The date didn't take place and he emailed me later that day, saying that he got nervous and kept on going. Never saw or heard from him again.
If you call from a blocked/private/unknown/restricted/secret number, I am pretty sure she will not answer the call. Use a cell that only YOU answer and that only YOU have access to. Make sure the number is unblocked.
Use a separate email account for hobbying, not your personal or work emails

All your calls and texts are tracked and stored by Google. Every address that you look up with Google map is also tracked and stored. I am guessing all their apps will do the same, including gmail. With those info, it's not too hard to figure out and to prove where you went and who you saw. I wouldn't trust Google's goodness not to release those info when they are faced with a court order (either from SO or LE). That's why I choose to have a burner phone. It may be hard to explain, but it would be harder to prove that you are innocent with those damning evidences.
Wow. What kind of felonies are LE looking for when they come after you? Must be very serious to expend such resources. At most, I may be guilty of a couple of misdemeanors a month. Tiny fish in a huge lake of bigger crimes to solve without a subpoena to a huge company with a team of lawyers.
But, we all see risks differently and manage the risk in our own way.
You also probably have a lot more to lose than I do. You must have.
As many providers see many strangers, it's quite possible one of her client can get caught up in something much bigger. i.e. the client's friend is on HS watch list and by association the client and the provider is now the list as well. By seeing that provider, you will get caught up in it too. I believe everyone should be as careful as possible (within reason of course). When you install anything from Google, you will open a backdoor for Google to hack into your regular phone. They will track all your activities and they will gather as much info from your regular phone as well.
When half of your wealth is at stake and your pissed off SO hires a attorney to come after you, you'll wish that you have left as few evidences as possible.
Google layed it all out here and how they fight the govt from accessing your data to a point, while complying to the law. They will notify if the govt wants your data, as long as its legal for them to do so.
They aren't giving that info away, and mostly what they use your info for is ads, google now service, etc.. If you don't want something tracked, just don't use a google service.
At the same time, they aren't just sending your stuff right to LE or anything and there's a whole process for the govt to try to extract that info, which Google is not down for.
My first time out, I did not do any of these things. Luckily the First Lady I saw gave me the exact same advice. Google voice didn't work out for me though... Didn't couple well with my iPhone.
