I did my research and found a provider that seemed to fit with what I wanted. I have never seen this provider before. I sent her an email and and she quickly replied and we agreed on a time and length of the session.

Her last email gave the address of the incall and the price which was higher than the website stated. I replied that I didn't understand why there was a difference between the advertised price and the one in her email. She said it was a mistake and there was no problem. The advertised price was the correct one. I thought about it for a while and cancelled the session.  

I negotiate prices all the time at work so I know how it works. I didn't take it personally. I just wasn't comfortable. Was I overreacting?

I know that I am on sooo many different websites and it's like almost impossible to keep track of them. Hence, I know abunch are outdated.

However, my website which I own and operate myself is up to date all the time...As a rule I would say what is on the website is accurate.

And no since she emailed you with a higher price and did not give you the lower..I would pass too!!

it his her loss. In a retail environment, if a sign on a counter says $x and the individual item on the counter is marked less than $x, you get the lower price.

esp if they are not real computer savvy.  However, they should keep their webmaster informed if they change their rates, whether up or down.  You should have been given the lower rate IMHO.  If you didn't feel
comfortable with the situation, you made the right call.  Any time you are not comfortable with a dealing with a provider, it's time to bail.

...I take the OP to say that her e-mail had a higher price than her website but when he questioned her she said the advertised price was correct.

I take the term "advertised price"  as it's used here to mean the price on her website.
Meaning to me she would see him at the price he was expecting.


In this case I don't know why you didn't go through with the appointment. It sounds like an easy mistake on her part. As Mackenzie said sometimes the ladies have different prices in ads so this mistake sounds plausible.

You however have to do what makes you comfortable in the situation so I won't say you were right or wrong.

But since he felt uncomfortable and is a newbie, I agreed that he did right thing by cancelling.  Not knowing the much about the rate adjustments that many providers make, he was confused.  Maybe it was not the best decision but it was his to make, and as you know, we all have to go with our gut feelings sometimes.

...that's why I ended with him having to do what ever he was comfortable with.   I was wanting to emphasize that what he did wasn't wrong. Though as I  think about it now I should have said doing what he was comfortable with was the right thing to do.

That said sometimes there are Specials advertized for less.  In which case he should as the OP did, inquire about the difference.  Sometimes Gals have different prices on different ads which may stay up a long time.   My only caution is about Specials which I've found may be for lesser time or services...   It is a challenge since one can not generally discuss service in advance...  I generally don't do Specials anymore but if I do, I am prepared to upgrade to her regular rate for the normal service.  (Not an upsell...  

I have my base rates on my website. I do advertise specials on certain websites, and older clients(who have seen me more than 1.5years ago)are still at my "old" rate which once again is different than my website rate.
I do think you over reacted a little bit. But if you are not comfortable with something then don't do it.
However it is strange that her ADVERTISING rate was higher than the website rate(whereas usually it is opposite) Maybe she doesn't have the extra $$ to pay her web designer to change the rates, or maybe she is just lazy and didn't change her website herself. She wasn't trying to hide anything as she let you know upfront. HOWEVER, rates should never be discussed in e-mail.I always nicely sway "please refer to my website" "or please look at the ad for my rate" That is one of the cardinal rules of hobbying through e-mail.(same as rates are not discussed over the phone)

Well I have asked ladies for their rates in emails numerous times, and I have always received answers.
I am only asking for her rate for a certain time period, not for specific activities. I don't see how discussing it in an email is any different than her listing it on her website. Now if the rates are clear on websites and ads, I never ask, as there is no need. But when there are discrepencies, or when I am looking for something not specified (for example she only has 1 hr and 2 hr rates listed but I am looking for a 4 hr date), then the only option is to ask!

Here are the facts.

Her advertised rate was on her website and on other third party sites and were all the same, 350.

We communicated by email and as we were finalizing the deal she said her rates were 50 higher.

I questioned the rate, and she said her email was a mistake. The price on the website was correct.

I see that I was perhaps overreacting and should have kept the appointment. I really liked her style and the fact that she wants to charge more is OK with me. A deal is a deal after all. But on my second outing I am not sure enough to handle even small hiccups. After I have been around the block a few times I am sure I will be able to deal this kind of situation.

In my book that makes her untrustworthy from the get-go.  You made the right decision.

Siimply asking how much for her time, is valid and usually ok if she is not clear. I have a damn drop down menu on my site,  to make sure there is no possible way anyone could not know what the rate per city is....I still get dumb ass questions about it. I never run a public special, so there should be no confusion. At times, I will run a prebooking special, but the date one must book by to get it, is clearly stated.
