I can understand and appreciate her attempt to further awareness of this dreaded disease. But from my impression she doesn't present proof (other than her say so) that she has AIDS; she might very well be HIV positive which in itself is a serious pre-requisite to developing full blown AIDS; and then certainly she is capable of infecting others.
But before we go around like the chicken yelling "the sky is falling" some thing to keep in mind:
1. The HIV viruses only live inside certain white blood cells (T-cells); the virus does not survive long on contact with air. So mode of transmission is by bodily fluids (blood-to-blood; seminal fluid-to-vagina).
2. STDs facilitate the transmission of the virus. So if someone already has an STD they are more susceptible to contracting the virus from an infected partner and also passing it on.
3. Unprotected sex (especially "rough sex") can increase likelihood of transmission. Unprotected "anal" is one of the most risky sex acts (that's why the homosexual community was devastated back in the '80's)
4. Illicit drug use goes hand-in-hand with HIV transmission. Not just "needle-sharing" which is one of the most prevalent means of transmission; but dependance on "crack", etc leads to unsafe sexual behavior which leads also to other STDs.
5. It is easier for a woman to catch the virus from a man as opposed to a man catching it from a woman (in unprotected sex). The virus does not penetrate "unbroken" skin so for a man unless he has "sores" or "lesions" the only entry is through the tip of the penis (urethral opening).
Nothing is 100% safe; but there are steps we can all take to keep this hobby safe
