It was good to share your concerns. However know that everybody will not agree with you. Reviews are helpful but they aint the end of the world. Do you know that undercover LE also join TER as members and write reviews. There are escorts who work for the cops. It takes so much to know who is bona fide or not. This hobby comes with risks so do your homework...
I'm directing this mostly at certain hobbyist posters, but also some providers, and for discretion's sake I won't mention any names in an open forum.
First let me say I'm not a newby here, I've been around a lot longer than I care to remember sometimes. And lately I've noticed what I think is a disturbing trend here, which is -- in the last few weeks there are a number of posts, the vast majority by hobbyists, calling out others, asking for specific information and generally making comments that require knowing things that a new hobbyist wouldn't know.
BUT THE ODD THINGS ARE, the caller-outers and question askers have no reviews, and often no board posts or they're using aliases. In either event, no-one answering such a post knows who they're talking to, and thus whether that person is bona fide or not. One of the most frequent such posters was until recently among the Top 10 Posters on this board.
This concerns me, because I've seen these people add comments like, "Ladies, I've got the references" and when I've expressed concerns to providers privately via PM's, they've responded that they have their own screening methods.
Well the problem with that is very simple -- there's only one way of establishing hobbyist bona fides here, and that's to write reviews. ANYONE can say, "I've got references" but how the hell do you know that when you're contacting them in the first instance? And do you think screening agencies are foolproof? There was a bust in Denver recently where P411 was infiltrated, and I think there was another one involving a regional board a few years ago, details of which escape me at the moment. As for BP, we've seen what just happened on LI so I won't rehash what's already been discussed here.
The important thing in this is, those who want to cause problems can post fake BP ads and seem to be able to create a P411 ID, but putting up reviews here is much harder, and therefore is a more reliable indication that the person is who they say they are.
In view of the M&G debacle last year caused by the then-organizer, I completely get the need for discretion -- I'd say that even had that debacle not occurred. But dammit part of discretion is establishing bona fides! So if you're going to take a new User Name, is it too much trouble to have reviews transferred over?
And if you're genuinely new to this, well, get VIP, do some research -- it's not hard, if I can learn how to do it anyone can -- and use resources like Google also. For instance a while ago someone asked how to find a provider in Scotland. It took me less than a minute on Google to find lots of links, so IMHO that's a completely superfluous post. Then when you see a provider, post a review and you're in!
Finally, I have to say that, IMHO anyone who's reincarnated and leveling criticism about the state of the board but doesn't want to help correct some of the defects -- many of which I agree exist -- they can go pound a lotta sand. The same applies to anyone like that, or using an alias, and asking for info about providers.
This is a decent community, IMHO far superior to its primary competition, and it has the potential to be even better. I think being upfront and establishing bona fides will go a long way to achieving that.

First of all, as someone who's written more than his fair share of reviews, there are other ways to establish your "bona fides" on any board. You can earn VIP by filing Problem Reports to correct information in the Profile section of a lady's review. That's a valuable service. Also, simply by being a regular poster, offering helpful responses and useful information, you can provide a similar service to this site. Assisting on the Newbie Board is another way. Lots of providers read the boards and, if you come across as a solid citizen of this community, they're pretty likely to want to see you whether you review or not. And there are lots of girls who do not want reviews at all and don't even want to see a guy who reviews.
While providers screen in many different ways, being able to check out a guy's reviews isn't a requirement. They want references from girls you've seen and to be able to check your profile on P411 or Date-Check. I have provided screening services for one well-known girl so I speak with some direct knowledge.
As for the P411 Denver situation, I've been in direct touch with Gina and know what she's done to minimize the damage. The savvy people I know realize there is no absolute way to keep this kind of thing from happening if LE really wants to use P411 as leverage. But it is still the most responsive, reliable and well run screening service around. And if people do their homework and don't rely on any one screening source they will be fine.
A brief note on the M&G debacle last year. I know the person responsible for it, as well as the guy who's now running things (four successful parties so far this year). He's very aware of discretion and knows how to screen. There have been no problems with the people permitted to attend.
For anyone who missed it, here's a link to the post Gina put up including her response to me:

Regular reader, rare poster, but I do agree with you....I never review, or read reviews. Everybody likes a different flavor of icecream, your mileage may vary etc, etc are some of the reasons why. So I doubt I will ever become a VIP member here. am on p411 and do not see the need to pay to join. I use this site as a secondary reference point. I have certainly benefited from comments posted on this board & the general one

Without knowing anything about you, I wouldn't even remotely consider giving you any recommendation on which lady to see. (I would hope no one else would either)
Here's how to search. First buy a VIP membership. Once you have done so, click on Reviews at the top. Then click on advanced search. For city, select New York (since you are on the NY board). For Age select the range of 31 to Over 45. You will come up with hundreds of ladies. You can then read their reviews (to see if they offer what you would consider a GFE session) and also look at their website to make sure they have the body type you like. Once you have found the lady of your dreams, you can begin the process of seeing if they will see you (be prepared to be screened)
Searching reviews is not challenging. You can quickly learn how to do it yourself.

Let me ask you this question. Lets say recently there was a favorable review posted by a newbie about a girl who frequently posts ads on BP. In doing your due diligence, you google her number and you see that she appears to be legit. So when you think you ready to finally call the young lady in the question, you google her number one last time and you see that review is no longer coming up in the search results. Would it be safe to assume that said newbie was a member of L.E. and the favorable review he wrote was to entice prospective hobbyists into seeing said her girl
