ok, I know these are hard times of recession for many, but how do you people think I should deal with a long time regular who just asked me to lend him £40.000? I mean, really? Who am I Sister Xmas?

I mean, for real?

He owns 2 properties, a hot car, a good job...........for real dude?????

Now people, how do you expect me to handle this one?

(dont be offended if I dont thank you for contribution, but is just that I can never find my posts here)

... it is clear you already know. You don't want to "lend" him anything. Nor should you.

40,000 / .639794 = $62,520, rounded.  We all know that loan requests are made in the hobby, but never before heard of one from a hobbyist, and never for an amount this large.

Needless to say, you should decline.

It's usually the opposite, where providers ask hobbyist for a loan. Commas and periods are standard in all countries, and you may have misplaced the period.

If its 40 euros, then that's only $50. If its 4,000 euros, then its about 5K. If its 40,000, then that's about 50K.

Anyhow, I don't mind lending someone $50. If its 5K, and anything above that, then I might have to reconsider it.

If he is asking for a 5K or above loan, simply tell him that you don't have the money for it. If he is successful as you say he is, then I have no clue why he is asking for a loan. It doesn't make any sense to me if a person is successful, and their bank account is low. Successful people don't usually have to ask for 5K loans.

Don't get involve in personal dilemmas. You meet him for business, and it should be just that unless you want to take it further. However, you can't always trust everyone you loan, especially money. If you do decide to give him a loan, make sure he signs a contract. Yes, I hate to be a dick, but, with a contract, you can take him to court if he doesn't pay you back. Don't just lend him the money and have an oral agreement, I've learned from experienced. Anytime I decide to do a loan that is over 1K, I always have them sign a contract. Just something for you to consider.

Lina I was just curious.  Did not think I was offensive.  Just seemed a little strange.  Hope you will still see me someday.  You have always been on my list.

I think if he asked for £40 it would be too much to ask. This guy has no intention of paying back any money given him.

As for you being Sister Xmas..... Come back to New York in December and I'd like find out. :)

Take care.

Get some collateral if you are gonna lend the money.  Establish clear terms.

If he wants to borrow 40k, then get collateral worth 60k in the used market you can sell right away.

You guys, to clarify, I aint lending nothing! lol

just sharing my shock, since I cant believe a guy would be so ungent like.

You got to laugh at people like that I guess.

question:

What do you think of a person that does something like that? (asking escorts for money i mean)

But certainly doesn't feel like a good approach.  Every time you end up having to ask someone for money, you end up showing your ass to them.  Which is fine if it's a good friend.

But a provider?  Seems odd, unless both parties are so close that they have total trust in each other, are exclusive or semi-exclusive, have had a history, are doing BBFS/CIV, etc.

And even then...why would you ask the person you are giving money to...to lend you money?

Suggest that he sell one of his properties or his "hot car".  Haha

The reason he is asking you and not going to a bank is because he has no intention of paying it back.  A bank wouldn't give him that kind of money without some collateral and his credit rating being on the line.

Now I feel like I have lost interest in him.

His request is soo off putting I may decide not to see him again.

I may be over the top but I find his request distasteful to say the least.

In the end I sent him an email saying that I dont even own the roof over my head and therefore not the right person to ask.

See if h gets the hint!

What a looser seriously lol

This is real simple. Just tell him/her that your friendship is too important to you and that lending people money in the past has always led to problems. put simply you do not want to risk the friendship over money. You have to "right fight". It saves face for both of you and you can perhaps keep this person as a client. If he/she continues to push it then you will have to tell them that you work too hard for your money so screw off.
