While I’ve read some of the past threads on the subject of squirting, I’m wondering how best to protect furniture and/or surfaces beyond the bed, if the distance squirted is quite far.

I've been with a few squirters and actually never came across one who squirted very far.

Honestly, it can be a drag if you have to worry about the bed. Repeated incidents could certainly ruin a mattress, and they're not cheap nowadays.

The science seems to indicate it is just urine. Not my thing either way, but I am not judging.

My ATF was a renowned squirter who later admitted to me it was pee. But another fave gushed a clear, viscous liquid that was definitely NOT pee. Look up Skene's Gland.

And by "squirt" I am very specifically talking about the kind you see in porn with the girl gushing. From what I understand, the Skene's gland produces feminine ejaculatory fluid, which is quite different from squirt as it is thicker and much less voluminous. I don't think I ever heard of that gland so thanks for mentioning it. I learn something everyday here. lol.

For something that is supposedly urine I have never detected even a hint or urine odor. That would be something that couldn't be camouflaged.

Robert, you and inicky are both correct.  The huge squirting and gushing in porn is either girls urinating or faked somehow ( like the fake cumshots)
I have been with a number of girls, both civvie and pro, who can squirt.  It was nothing like the porn movies.  The amount of fluid was MUCH less and it happened spontaneously.  
Also, the fluid was odorless and clear, zero odor like urine, and the taste was almost sweet.

I usually just put a towel down if I feel like I'm coming close to squirting. It shouldn't travel far at all. Once I was bent over the bed and wasn't prepared for squirting so I completely soaked my faux fur rug. I learned my lesson after that!

I use the fitted Sheets of San Francisco brand for the bed, and the flat sheets for the floor or any other furniture that needs protection. They are easily washable and a great investment. I recommend the pillow covers as well
