Thanks for bring this up. I was just thinking about it yesterday. My father volunteered three weeks later.

I respectfully disagree with anyone who believes this is an incorrect forum to remember Pearl Harbor. There is no such forum that exists.

1177 men are entombed under the monument below. They are part of the reason we all get to post here today, and every day. Think about it!

Thanks Manny!

... but I find it hard to believe there is virtually no mention of Pearl Harbor anywhere today.

I found one little link on MSN.com   Haven't read the whole thing - but it's not on the front page of my local paper.

As a Navy vet - I'll never forget.  Have the same feelings about 9/11 and the Marine barracks in Beirut.

Oh well.  I'll just say "May God bless them & keep them." or however the preachers say it.

( as you might deduce - I'm not exactly Mr. Religion anymore )

Thanks,
Manny

This is a hobbyist/provider forum why would we be talking about Pearl Harbor?

Because we can.

Because the memory may be fading more & more - each & every year.

Like I said when I started the thread - there was virtually nothing on the net nor in my local paper.  Turns out there is stuff out there, but it is fading - let me tell you.

I just don't want it to fade.  That generation sacrificed BIG TIME !!  And I was raised to honor that.  So, I served.  SS344 served.  Many served.  Perhaps, Jmitch50, you did (or do) serve.

I didn't do it for the "Thanks for your service" stuff that so many say today.  I know they mean well, but frankly I'm embarrassed when someone says it to me.  I served in very, very peaceful times.  So, it didn't amount to much in comparision to the real vets - those who have seen "the elephant".

... to say that there is "virtually no mention of Pearl Harbor" today is a bit of an exaggeration.

A quick Google News search shows nearly 5000 articles today commemorating the date. And Barack Obama spoke of it twice today, on Meet the Press and during his press conference announcing the appointment of fellow Hawaiian, retired Army General John Shinseki, as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Obama mentioned that his grandfather is buried in the Punchbowl National Cemetery on Oahu.

I had the great good fortune to visit Pearl Harbor three years ago. It was an extraordinary, moving experience I never will forget. Bless all those good men and women who gave their lives in service of country.

... here in my little old town.  I don't do the TV news usually except for the weather.  So, I missed Obama's interview.

There were 3 articles in my local paper today - once I read it.  But nothing on the AT&T homepage I use.

In any case, thanks for pointing out some bad wording on my part.

I don't even get out of the house today.  Normal thing for me on a Sunday.  Nope - don't even do the church stuff anymore.

Otherwise, I might have seen it.  Like Tozer said, my wording was a little off!!
