We are looking at coming to visit the big apple next week. Wondering what areas is best to stay in?

Midtown East
Times Square
Financial District

These are all well trafficked and easy to get to for many people.  

Agreed.  Chelsea and the Meatpacking District are hip, but very client-unfriendly because they are not near any financial service firms, which is where your target audience is gonna be.

Thats where I will be when I visit next month.

The reason you keep hearing about the 40s and 50s is because there are a lot of finance firms located there, and that's where the clients will be.  A lot of clients live in NJ, Westchester or CT, and just can't be bothered with going to way out of the way places.  Having a place within a subway stop or within walking distance makes it easier for you to book daytime appointments, or appointments in the evening.

Locations between the 30's to 50's are also best for those of us who drive into the City for evening rendezvous' from NJ or Long Island, as the Lincoln and Queens Midtown tunnels exit into the midtown area.   There is also a far larger choice of good hotels in that area, and the location is central so that you will be close to various other points of interest, restaurants, shopping, transportation to and from airports, etc.
