you can go to rockefeller center to see the christmas tree and visit the empire state bldg to get a view. if you like chinese food, try chinatown except it is always freaking crowded. subway is the best way to get around. ask the conductors on the subways for directions or token clerks instead of flashing the train map around. do not carry your wallet in your back pocket. hope this helps.

LOL, everywhere in NYC is crowded.

I like to visit Greenwich Village on occasion, SOHO, the art galleries.

You could always stop in to say Hi to Bill Clinton up on 125th St.

of the outside monuments...Bring your own shovel!...lol

But Manhattan around the Rock center tree is exciting...
do some 5th avenue shoping via the "window"...lol..stop in at FA Swartz and make believe your a kid again ...
Take that special someone for a horse and buggy ride...catch it in front of the Plaza Hotel...have a couple of drinks at Jeckyl and Hydes...turn into Hyde...then to satisfy the carnivore in you...a pastrami sandwich at the carnegie deli... a steak at Smith and Wolinsky or Ben Benson...Radio City Christmas show...A few more drinks at Windows of the world at Rock center... some blues music at Lucilles bar inside BB KIng's on Friday night...Catch the Sinatra show at the Carnegie club Saturday night...stroll over to Times Square and have a drink at the ESPN sports bar....dinner at Carmines for Italian....
then for dancing...Well at this point.... to hell with dancing....go back to your room and get layed.

Then go have a great time seeing a show a Rockefeller Center or take in a broadway show! Comedy clubs, like Carolines, are also a great diversion.
But my first suggestion still stands!!!

Julies...oh, the sites...well in that case, go to the Guggenhiem, have lunch at the Metropolitan, go down to Rockefeller Ctr and ice skate, go out for a nice dinner in Soho, and then go to Julies...

This time of year you have to go to Rockefeller Center to see
the tree.  For a day trip you can wander around that area.

As long as your not doing any shopping, and not in a rush,
you should be fine as far as crowds.  If you were trying
to do something like getting gifts it can be a nigthmare.

I think you have gotten some good respnses so far. Just walking around Times square is a trip in it self.If the weather is nice go downtown to Ground zero ,and visit the World Finacial center across the street. The Atruim inside had many restaurants and shops , and the esplanade outside has a great view of the Hudaon and Statue of Liberty as well.
