Hi My name is Kelsie and im new to TER and im new to New York. Any advice navagating this site would be appreciated. Also if anyone can tell me where i can go for some real authentic New York pizza ( im such a tourist). Im looking forward to making new friends love Kelsie. ;)

is a real good bet for pizza,

thanks for joining us last week, you were a big hit, everyone was glad to meet you, including me

Hi Kelsie! It was a pleasure to meet you. We met at the meet & greet in Manhattan. I was the 3rd guy (not including our host) to show up that night. This was the shirt I was wearing that night.

I am an infrequent user of TER so perhaps another person can help with learning the ins & outs of TER.

But for my job, I recently had to write a blog entry on finding classic NYC food, so I think I can help. Finding great food is really dependent on your current location & how much you want to travel. If someone recommends lets say "John's Pizzaria of Bleeker" in the West Village, then they are correct in that you will get great pizza there. But if you are on the Upper East Side, then going to the Village for a slice of pizza is kinda extreme.

So my advice is to use a combination of restaurant search engines and other food guides to make finding a great place to eat a bit easier.

On the topic of restaurant search engines, I use the following:

Yelp
http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=pizza&find_loc=Manhattan%2C+NY&ns=1

Urbanspoon
http://www.urbanspoon.com/c/3/New-York-restaurants.html

NY Magazine

Timeout NY

For food guides, I like SeriousEats.com. NY.Eater.com is good too.

Thank you luv. I do remember you from the m&g and it was a pleasure meeting you. Hope to hear from you soon. ;)

...has the best pizza, though there's plenty of decent-to-good pizza all over the map in NYC, especially if you're willing to journey beyond Manhattan. I like Co., too, but that's not exactly the authentic pizza experience you may have in mind.

I've lived in the area for six years, and I still haven't found the perfect bagel - everything's too doughy and over-inflated! So you'll have plenty to keep you busy. :-)

(And I'm new to TER, too... the newbie board and self-help manual - aka the thing that looks like a lifesaver - has been a help, just in terms of the rules of the road and what the hell all the acronyms are about, so I'd recommend that if you haven't checked it out yet.)

Welcome!

Thank you for the advice hope to hear from you soon. ;)

Agreed: Sally's, Pepe's, and the Spot, all in Wooster Square, make New Haven the premier place for pizza. Pepe's opened a place in Yonkers on Central Ave, but it doesn't even mildly resemble their New Haven franchise.

Trust me on this one go to Lombardi's. It is fun and I have never met a down to earth girl who did not like this place. The old-school section is my favorite as they renovated/expanded a few years back, but I still like the cheesy booths in the original restaurant. This place is fun and has history. Bring a guy and if he has a good time then he passes the muster. If he complains the whole time you should get an instant headache, hop into a cab and come over to my place. It is six blocks away lol

Welcome Little Lady,

J

If you want a real NYC pizza, ignore those suggestions

If you want a NYC slice, then you can go just about anywhere. Of you want the real deal, go to Grimaldi's. the original is on the other side of the Brooklyn bridge but there is one in Chelsea. Totonnos on the UES or Lombardis inLittle Italy

I will be able to eat pizza for a least one month straight until I get through all these yummy suggestions:-)  This city will be a great fit for me, because I love pizza!

I had heard about the place over the BK from AAT, she said that place is amazing:-)

Love,

Kelsie

I live in Vegas but i have been to NY many times, and i can tell you that there is pizza everywhere and most off it is really good. There are bakery's and delis everywhere and my mouth is watering just thinking about it! I have a friend who sends me food from NYC 2x a year. In fact I am going to be there next weekend! let me know what you find, we can go n a pizza tasting tour and find more! Then we will need Heather' Seven new work out system called the H90SEX!!! It's very unique.

cheers!!

Hey Heather,
From NY to LV to LA and wherever you go. ur still cute as a button in my book! Hope you are well. You are picking the perfect time to visit NYC, the weather is absolutely amazing right now, one of my favorite times of the year.

I'll be dumbstruck.

Then again, not sure he hangs out here still.  You might PM him.

Driggs Pizza on Driggs ave in Williamsburg (just forget that its in the middle of hipsterville and your fine).

Spumoni Gardens in Gravesend is also top notch.

Both are worth the trip to BK.

Unless you have a car....

But IMHO, the BEST new york pizza is in queens. New Park Pizza on Cross Bay blvd. It's the BEST! I actually have NYC pizza competition dates where my date will pick a pizza place and I pick one and see who's is better. I have won EVERY TIME going to New Park. You need a car though.

I've been calling this one gypsy cab driver for ages ever since I lived in queens. For the last 3 years he picks me up from JFK on most returns. Whenever I return from a particularly long trip I have him go grab a pie for me before he gets me. New Park is close to JFK. It's the best welcome home present ever. The guy's wife often comes along for the ride and she and I finish almost the whole pie before they drop me off at home. Come to think of it- I'll be away for a few weeks next month! New Park for Kate! Yay!!!!!

Hope you are having a great time here in NYC so far Kelsie! Welcome!

Kiss me,

Kate
