... to say that there is "virtually no mention of Pearl Harbor" today is a bit of an exaggeration.
A quick Google News search shows nearly 5000 articles today commemorating the date. And Barack Obama spoke of it twice today, on Meet the Press and during his press conference announcing the appointment of fellow Hawaiian, retired Army General John Shinseki, as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Obama mentioned that his grandfather is buried in the Punchbowl National Cemetery on Oahu.
I had the great good fortune to visit Pearl Harbor three years ago. It was an extraordinary, moving experience I never will forget. Bless all those good men and women who gave their lives in service of country.
Because the memory may be fading more & more - each & every year.
Like I said when I started the thread - there was virtually nothing on the net nor in my local paper. Turns out there is stuff out there, but it is fading - let me tell you.
I just don't want it to fade. That generation sacrificed BIG TIME !! And I was raised to honor that. So, I served. SS344 served. Many served. Perhaps, Jmitch50, you did (or do) serve.
I didn't do it for the "Thanks for your service" stuff that so many say today. I know they mean well, but frankly I'm embarrassed when someone says it to me. I served in very, very peaceful times. So, it didn't amount to much in comparision to the real vets - those who have seen "the elephant".
