I know they are different options when selecting where to stay. As far as Doorman's or No Doorman's, which is better?
As for hobbying, would it be better or worse to choose a place with a Doorman or without? I assume they provide some level of service, but I am not sure if they become overly inquisitive. I welcome suggestions from everyone. Thanks
Large apartment buildings with doorman, not a good idea. This scenario just breeds snooty, poking their nose into tenants business.
Smaller buildings with doorman, might not be too bad, but you've got to be cool with them. Keep them happy. Tip them well and they will be cool to you. They'll just ignore what you're doing and they'll probably look out for you like family. Just my .02 cents. nycad
I think I will stick with a place without a doorman at least for this upcoming first visit just to keep things smooth. I am not so versed on the intricacies of the New York hobby scene just yet. I doubt not having a doorman would be a bad thing at all, right?
I have no problem visiting a gent with a doorman, it is his home and where I presume he is being responsible with his doorman and visitors.
However, I would not stay at an apartment with a doorman if I was entertaining there, either as a separate "work" apartment or if I was entertaining in my home - something I would never do as I don't believe it's safe, but I know other ladies are comfortable with it. Some have the opinion that doormen are all-knowing but discrete about their residents, but I'd rather have no-one aware of my activities, than staff that are aware but HOPEFULLY look the other way. To me, it's the same as hotels that are recommended because the staff know whats going on and don't cause any problems. I'd much rather be discrete to where they don't know at all.
In some cases, no call upstairs was necessary. I've never had a problem meeting a lady at an apartment in NYC, regardless of the presence of a Doorman...
Worst case with security was at the Doubletree in Times Square, back in '04, and at the W on Lex a few years ago... Both times, security or the front desk had to call the lady, and get authorization. Inconvenient, but no problems both time. But neither of the ladies were happy about that, and with good reason.
I agree CD. Some guys who want to be über discrete, may be a bit nervous about it, but I have always acted like it's just a normal visit.
I think it is more an issue for the provider. To what extent the doorman could catch on to what she is up to and starts talking or causing problems. May be ok is she is extremely low volume, but certainly a big risk if 5 new guys are showing up everyday..
Yeah, I really do appreciate the feedback. I am typically low volume. However, this being my first trip to New York, I have quiet a few clients already booked. I want to play it safe so I went ahead and decided no doorman.
