I'm sure this is not a new topic. But I'm personally down 75% in the last 2 weeks in my main portfolio (mostly equity options, and a lot of Bank of America). Look, I'm not a millionaire, but we're still talking about a very sizable portfolio. It hurts.

I'm sure the usual discussion is how, when the market does poorly, I scale back on hobbying. But to be honest, I'm down so much, I'm thinking.... Might as well get SOMETHING nice from the hemmorhaging. At this point, I could go to Budoir de muse every day of the year (tho I've never been there to this point) and at least have a smile on my face each day.

Is this crazy talk? Someone set me right ....

I think maybe I should submit that queue of reviews I've been putting off - to get my mind off of things.....

But I have a decade and a half to recover, and the recent market paper losses are somewhat offset by the gains in my gold and precious metals hedge.  But, it is all on paper, unless you execute trades.  As for my cash account that funds hobbying, travel, and paying current bills, not affected at all.  My job is not in danger as a result of this turmiol, and my company is recording huge profits.  I do have to redeem stock options before the end of the year, though, and I will be cashing out when the next bear market rally occurs,  Best that can be done under current circumstances...

I can't imagine what's in your portfolio.  And, yes, you should hobby.  Don't sell now, that's for sure, you'll only lock in your losses.

Options are leveraged instruments, so losses mount very quickly.  BAC is down 50% this year, options are worthless (calls)

covered calls is the way to go...

in case any of you care, i do a lot of short puts and bull put spreads. it's not the end of the world. i always make it back, so it's not like i'm DYING. but i'd be lying if i told you it didn't hurt.

ok, i'm gonna try to go meet Adrianne tomorrow. we'll see how it feels to spend some money.
