Let sleeping dogs lie...

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT( WITH NAMES DELETED TO COMPLY WITH TER RULES) OF AN ARTICLE WRITTEN BY A PROMINENT COLUMNIST APPEARING ON PAGE 18 OF THE N.Y. DAILY NEWS OF MARCH 15th, 2012. DYI.

The world’s oldest profession shows no signs of disappearing. On April 10, 1836, a prostitute was murdered in downtown Manhattan. Police charged a rich john with the homicide. The murder, arrest and trial were splashed across page one of The New York Herald, edited, tripling circulation and creating a new popular journalism of sex, money and murder.

Today, 176 years after that murder, prostitution stories still sell newspapers and boost TV news ratings. But maybe the fake outrage created by this latest installment, about the alleged soccer-mom madam, offers the right time for a couple of legislators with a pair of bills to try to legalize or at least regulate prostitution in New York.

But enough with the fake outrage, okay? Enough  with the “Stop-the-presses! I'm shocked — shocked! — that there are hookers in New York!”Are we kidding, here in the city that never stops sleeping with everybody else? Anyone who's ever opened the back of a local weekly tabloid or logged onto the numerous internet websites knows hookers are everywhere. They've been here since the Dutch settled the town.

But legalizing prostitution will make the whole business safer for johns, hookers and the citizenry. It will eliminate violent, extortionist pimps, create cleaner, safer work environments, impose mandatory condom laws and STD screening of registered prostitutes by the Department of Health.

In Nevada, where prostitution is legal in nine of its 17 counties, there hasn't been a reported case of HIV amongst registered prostitutes since mandatory screening began in 1982."If I were able to get 1,000 girls working legally in Las Vegas, where prostitution is illegal, I could deliver the city a half-billion dollars every 18 months," says the head lobbyist of the Nevada Brothel Owners Association. He says we could times that by 10 in New York. Cash-strapped New York could rack up a $5-a-head Sack Tax, fees for brothel licensing and work permits, and income taxes from brothel owners and hookers.

Just as the repeal of Prohibition ridded the liquor industry of organized crime, vile hum an traffickers and snakeheads selling young women into sexual slavery would soon disappear because there would be no underground demand. It has been argued that regulating this industry would be much cheaper than arresting, adjudicating and imprisoning hookers, pimps and madams.

C'mon, does anyone actually believe we have a safer republic because convicted prostitutes did jail time? Prostitution is legal in many European countries, including Catholic strongholds like Poland and Ireland. Pimping is not. We've basically decriminalized marijuana use. Gamblers lose $10 million a week to a legal casino in Queens. The right of a man or woman to charge for a harmless service is also on the horizon. Small government conservatives should agree that morality can't be legislated.

But if you want to condemn true immorality watch the recently aired movie about two high-paid political handlers charged with tricking the American public into believing an incompetent Soccer mom nincompoop from Alaska who didn't even know what the Fed was, would be a worthy running mate for a 72-year-old presidential candidate. Their jobs redefined the phrase "whoring yourself."

That's more immoral than any of the charges against the recently indicted alleged upper East Side madam and her lovely co-defendant. Because she allegedly connected high-priced hookers with rich johns we are all supposed to be shocked?

C'mon, its fake outrage. Legalize or regulate prostitution so that law enforcement can focus on serious crimes like terrorism, gangs, guns, rape, the prescription pill epidemic, and murders of vulnerable illegal hookers that haven't stopped since a prostitute  was butchered with a hatchet 176 years ago.

As an 'escort' I do not combine my sexual activity (a la carte) and money together (ever) and I do not walk the streets selling myself. As a Prostitute, you have no means to say no to your body since you are selling it for obvious reasons. Prostitution is scary; like living in the wild wild west.  Young children are sold, many are drugged up by pimps against their will, and horrifying sex acts are photographed and video taped.  I for one believe that as an escort you do have the right to say NO - I am not going to be intimate with you because of certain reasons: drunk, high, crazy, angry,...you get the idea. I have sent away a couple of guys that I believed were not for my best interest (ie. making it difficult to enjoy that person) I have the right to say NO if a gentlemen who continues to try and bareback me and then say "you have to get me hard". With that response I left the situation because I didn't feel safe and yes, I took the donation as promised. Obviously this is a RARE thing in my world but when it comes to the P word (prostitution) and the M word (money) I never mix such a potent potion. Escorting is companionship  and not everyone will have full on service. Some like to talk, some like massage, some like to go out for drinks and food, some like to lick you all over - it isn't ALWAYS sex. With that, I love what I do as a hobby. I don't know how long I will be around in this arena but from the many different people I have been around I would take the escort way a much more pleasant way to engage  in intimacy. With that, I have chosen to pick hobbyists whom I prefer by their compatibility and easiness. This is just my opinion....kisses,
Chloe

The hobby here in NYC heretofore has been cool in the circles I'm in.  Let's keep it that way!

Most of society will look past us if we maintain a low profile, and don't do anything stupid that attracts LE.

Legalization, with it's burdensome regulation, isn't what we want.  Just leave us the fuck alone, let us pay our taxes, do our jobs, contribute to society, and allow us to live our lives as responsible adults the way we see fit so long as we hurt no one else in the process.  Is that too much to ask?

If If If (a big if) prostitution was ever legalized, here's what happens:
1. It becomes restricted to a selected area, a sleazy "red light" district.
2. The government would require licenses for the girls. They would probably be limited in number, and high
    priced, like hack licenses.
3. Taxes and fees attached would be exorbitant. Look at your cable and cell phone bills, and taxes attached to
gas and cigarettes. I'm no tea partyer, but this is always a cute way of taxing us.

Even in liberal New York, where we have legalized gay marriage (bravo!), we can't legalize gambling outside of Indian reservations. Forget legalization. I think we're all better off without it.

OK- all independent girls consider themselves escorts- but if they read your reviews all said sexual acts was committed and money was collected.. of course we do not have sex all the time with our lovely clients.. they take us out to dinner, and we listen to them talking and talking and they could have us coming over and we could do overnights and sometimes no sexual acts.. and we all wants to get pay for our companionship.  and yes we do have our own rules and who to see and not to see.. at the end of the day at the end of the night.. it still means the P word.. prostitute.. same meaning to the society, because the have pre-judgement and stigma about our work.

If you enter somewhere and there is a sting operation going on and you went there as an escort... getting pay for your time of course... LE does not care either way if you collect money or not either you perform any acts... they could arrest you on the spot just you showing up to a place as an escort..

Just a thought... to society it means the samething- high class, low class.. they put all escorts in the same category.. you could go to a rich client having dinner with him and he treats really nice and he knows you are there and getting pay for your time, if you and him ever had a fight.. he will use the P word- Prostitute.. all of the sudden, you are a prostitute to him..

so it's not fair by that's the way it is..

my 2 cents

Could you imagine the Congressman justifying to his wife why he voted in favor of legalizing prostitution?

In order to keep sexual acts between consensual adults hassle-free, we men in the US have to be willing to put our ballots and sometimes our money where our mouth is.  When you weigh whether or not to vote for (or against someone) ask yourself, whether in addition to job creation, improved health care, growing the economy and a better foreign policy, your candidate's success is likely to result in hobbying with fewer hassles.  This analysis is more relevant on the state and local level where most sex regulation takes place.  Depending on your answer, support that person's campaign including by contributing to it.

This issue is not necessarily a Democrat versus Republican issue.  There is sympathy among some Republicans for the libertarian position of keeping the government out of the bedroom (hotel room).  There is sympathy among some Democrats for a particular strain of feminism which claims that all prostitution is non-consensual and exploitative.

You may think that politicians are crooks, but one of them will win.  It might as well be one who'll let us hobby in peace.

Why is there even a fucking title or legal or not legal why can't we live like adults who are surviving? It is a proven medical fact you need food, you need water and you need human companionship. Those who choose to be adults and really take that human companionship to its fullest potential live longer. So if you don't want to live longer I hate to be so blunt but that is just your fucking issue not mine. I live my life always mindful and respectful of those around me and I know I always am bubbly and smiling I WONDER WHY BECAUSE I ENJOY MY LIFE AND HELP OTHERS FIND ENJOYMENT! I have heard of some really bad people in my life, so why the hell would something so kind an innocent as making people smile be so bad.

Really what is bad is the constant media which has everyone in turmoil and the papers and talk. We should enjoy our lives to the fullest not medal in others. To those people go get laid already it really is as great as you hear.....
