The Empire Hotel.  A high floor suite overlooking Dante Park with the city lights and Broadway is spectacular.  Had a "meeting" there several years back and I always remember how amazing that room was with the HUGE living room, kind sized bed, small but high end appointed bathroom and again that view... can't miss

While I agree the Dream is a good idea, only the one Downtown.  The one in the 50s is tiny, even the suites

And the great thing about using your drop top Mercedes S600 is you can place it in a cool surrounding ... not just a showroom ... or a parking lot with distractions and unwanted reflections in the paint.
With a drop top I can be all over the car, in and out!

Me too, Devin!

The best advice I ever got was from a Canadian escort who told me to look like I planned to look in the bed, in the lobby, at the restaurant, wherever we meet.  I no longer use any pool/beach/bikini pics.

As soon as I added more cocktail dress pics, I booked many more dinner dates.  Now, I just need a morning after pic!!

Thompson and Empire and Dream are all good.

I'd throw into the ring the Standard (both in Cooper Union and even more so in the Meatpacking district. Both have huge windows for great shots of the city as the backdrop (get the corner room @ E Village).  The one in Chelsea has a see-through wall for the shower, which could be playful as are the showers in the Hudson.

Been a while, but Trump Soho had beautiful rooms when they opened.

So ... back to the thread topic from my diversion ... what NYC hotel would YOU select as a backdrop to a photo of a model posing suggestively with your silver Benz SL500?

And would you then hand keys to the valet and finish the shoot inside ... and in what venues and suite?

Does "back in black" refer to the economy ... or color of your next Benz?

This is a related issue but seems to fit in this thread.

When you set up a hotel suite shoot, who reserves and takes care of the room?

In some cases, the photographer gets the room and pays for it ... either an interesting venue you want or one the photographer suggests (that you approve).

I like this, as it establishes a safe, clear boundary between the photoshoot business and any other type of business. I've bounced this off my photographer who seems to be fine with it.

The photog should have volumes of photos to choose from. All the details should he gone over before the shoot. Also ownership if photos . If your going for different looks a make up artist is also a must. Nothing should rushed , and simple test photos should also be taken prior to the shoot. Black n white photos r a must 4 me . Just an extra added touch. And with a pro the price and packages should be inclusive . Vanessa , u do look great and a good photographer would go crazy with u. xoxo

My last shoot was at a quiet Bel Air hotel and I haven't been so relaxed in ages!  Had a private balcony backing up to the hills, a wood burning fireplace, it was heaven.

I also destroy the room with clothes, accessories, shoes, and would rather have a drink and some down time after the shoot.

The provider should be her own Art Director in charge of what she wants....wardrobe, makeup, hair, lighting, style....the shots to take....all the photographer should be doing is the shooting, if you can't do it yourself...which imo, can be done. I have done all my own photography myself since day one. It's actually quite fun. I wasn't after the 'airbrushed' look  as I am an all natural girl thru and thru and wanted to depict that as best I could...but that was and is 'my' style, which is clearly not for everyone.

If you're a glitzy gal...then add all the glitz you need...whatever works for you. The key is for you to be in charge and most importantly to depict a 'realistic you' in any photo. Bottomlin, the gentlemen you see should have no question that it is you when you walk into the room and no unrealistic surprises...that will only hurt you in the end in marketing your 'brand' and in moving forward successfully.

To get what you want, you should know what you want. Start with a 'concept' and go with it. Don't leave that up to the photographer because he's not in your brain. If you leave it up to him/her, you will look like the rest of his portfolio and not stand out.

You book the room.
You bring the wardrobe.
You direct him or her with the poses and what you want.
Pretty simple.

And most importantly, have fun and enjoy your stay with whatever location you do decide to book

I don't know why you'd attack a girl, we are the ones who do this successfully, right?

I agree with Taylor, you have to customize your shoot for what you want, for your clientele.  Photographers love working with a girl who has a vision in mind.  Like anyone, photographers get stuck in routines.  I coordinate everything with the photographer via email before we begin and I know what my site is missing, the angles I prefer, etc.

All I want the photographer to do is offer professional insight, shoot the pics and have the best lighting in the universe!

Funny, you attacked her for telling someone how to do their job yet didn't you just tell us how to do ours?
I worked on the other side of the camera as a makeup artist for many years, I always listened to what my clients wanted.
And I still do in this business!

Why do u pick the ones u do ? Simply put u like their work , if I'm wrong correct me . Each has a certain style , technique etc. If your going to TELL them how to do your shoot while the shoot is going on , you made an expensive mistake . Test shits are simple and FREE ! Am I saying U have no input , nope its your shoot and your photos , honestly u have glamour shots as do many girls and the remarks she made about getting dolled up and not looking "real" are insulting to most women . Taylor has been posting for awhile and also believes reviews are stupid ? She has her opinion and I have mine . I like variety , she doesn't , oh well . And according to her , u as a name up artist wouldn't work either ? So who"s zoomin who ?

IMO and my personal experience.....

I have found that the best shots result from a collaboration of ideas between photographer and subject. If a girl tells the photographer what she wants, she's not wasting her money. On the contrary, she's getting her money's worth. I let the girl get setup in the way that she wants the shot to look. After doing that shot, I do variations on that theme, with shifting of arms, legs, body twists. If i see something totally different, we'll shoot that in addition to the original. But I'm on the lookout for the spontaneous. Sometimes a girl isn't even trying to assume a pose when suddenly she's in a great position and i say "freeze!" Sometimes the shot she just fell into works best.

In this business, photography has one goal: Make the phone ring.

The photography has a secondary goal, that's to get the right guy calling for the right girl. If I took pics that were edgy, gothic girl it would totally misrepresent who I am. I'm the girl in Dolce and Gabbana at dinner, and white silky pajamas in the morning. I'm the sweet, girl next door type. I wish I was Naomi Campbell or Kate Moss but I'm not!
I have boobs (giant ones) and curves and I'm pretty white bread in general.
My client needs to know this or he'll be disappointed. High fashion photographers will get the lighting I like, but do they know how to best shoot me? Sometimes.

My two faves know that my test shot is often the one we like like best, so true! And the pic of me drinking the champagne was just that, I took a sip and he took a pic and I loved it.
I'm also usually done in under 2 hours and my photographers are happy I know what I wanted and they don't have to drag it out of me!
