Vigil to end violence against sex workers
Originally published: December 17, 2011 2:23 PM By SARAH CRICHTON  [email protected]

News that Shannan Gilbert's remains had been identified sent a ripple through a vigil for slain sex workers in Manhattan yesterday. About 260 names of those killed worldwide were read at the vigil, aimed at calling attention to violence against sex workers. The vigil at Trinity Lutheran Church on the Upper West Side also memorialized Gilbert and the women who worked in the sex trade whose remains have been found near Gilgo Beach."As human beings and taxpayers, we deserve to be protected," said Cayenne Doroshow, a sex worker who addressed the gathering held to mark International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers."Sex work is a very, very common profession, yet it's not talked about," said Bowie Snodgrass, of Manhattan, who does outreach to sex workers. "It's wonderful that people in the community can come together for a time of mourning and healing and bring what's in the shadows into the light.""It's terribly sad, but in some sense, her death shed light on the whole way that people who are or who are assumed to be sex workers are treated," said A. Lee, 22, a speaker at the event.
"Criminalization of sex work only further disempowered the victims," he said. "It can't be that the perpetrators know no consequences. Their violence affects us all -- the killers are still out there.Lee said after running away from his Midwest home at 15, he roamed the country and was in "survival sex relationships" until coming to New York City, where he started working on the street at 19. He is now a college senior studying literature.Audacia Ray, a former sex worker whose group helped organize yesterday's vigil, said of Gilbert, "Even if a hand was not put on her, she was, to me, still a victim of violence" because of her frantic 911 calls and a witness's claim that she told him her life was in danger."She was chased into a marsh," said Ray, 31, who directs the Red Umbrella Project, which helps sex workers speak out on public policy.Michael Tikili, 25, of New York City, an AIDS activist, said he attended the vigil in part because he'd had a relationship with a former sex worker and had come to see that many people who are homeless rely on sex work for survival.
"We need to support them. They are humans, our loved ones," Tikili said.

These poor girls who you get to lick your gnarly toes and wrinkled scrotum sack are saints or just stupid.  I think the latter.

Of course you posted this drivel under an alias. Your lack of intelligence, mean spirit, and apparent intent on totally eviscerating the worth of this board are palpable. He posted a news story that should resonate with everyone in this community. You chose his contribution as an opportunity to be as callous and insensitive as possible, both to him and to the church service on which he commented. What is most surprising is that you actually get internet service under the rock in which you dwell. May the new year give you some compassion.

Why would I have any compassion for the most odious vile creep on the east coast? If you can find any redeeming features in his sorry ass let us all know what they are?   There are none I can assure you.

After my tours in Nam I don't go to church either. Will gladly discuss that with you, if you are interested. But at least I don't resort to an alias. If you have proof that he is a "creep," post specifics. Then the board members can decide. At this point, and going on for way too long, everything as been hear-say. Be specific. Maybe then the board mods can act. Why is he vile? Come out from your alias. You probably have info the board needs that can stop the inane banter. Are you willing to step up to the plate with specifics? If you are, I will back you completely, if it is credible. It's your call.

Enough with the vicious attacks! Enough with the Troll, Alias, vicious posts! This board is becoming a cesspool of hatred! It stinks because a few creeps decide to hide behind Aliases and attack an old dude who can still get it up! Whatever he posts, whether thought of as shill or trivia; he has the right to do so! We all have the right to read or ignore his musings! Our capable moderators would take his stuff down if it violated TER rules so why do cowards decide to bully him? Maybe the Trolls need a sex life just as anyone needs a sex life! Cowardly Dudes, remove your masks, look at your selves in the mirror and book yourselves a real gal, get laid and for heaven's sake! HAVE FUN!!!!
Tis the season for giving or getting, not hating! ;-)
Best Holiday Wishes to all of you!
