After looking through various sites for mid-priced pros in NYC, couldn't help noticing, yet again, that MANY good, mid-priced traveling "pros" set up shop in LI.

Can't help wondering if, with the economy improving, and therefore, NYC hotel rates going up, if this is leading more and more traveling pros to operate out of LI due to its lower hospitality rates?

Also, is it really worth it to them, as they end up potentially losing clients who are not based in LI, and don't have a car to drive out there, like myself?

Just a thought to start the New Year with.  Happy New Year!  :)

I hope not. It's getting tougher and tougher to get a provider to come near the Meadowlands or Hoboken. I would rather drive to CT Philly or Maryland than drive on the Long Island Expressway. I have cousins in Long Island and I just won't make that drive.

I rarely have to monger outside of midtown, uptown or the village, except for last night when I had to go to lower Manhattan for a special NYE event.

Shit, I don't even like going to Jersey (even against rush) so LI just isn't on my radar. Ever.

They are thinking of changing the name of the L.I.E. to the P.O.S. and not a moment too soon! :D

NYC may DOMINATE in terms of the variety of "entrenched," native pros, but I fear more and more VISITING pros will opt to operate out of LI, taking into consideration hotel rates, and perhaps a sense that LI would offer more of a guarantee of a "middle class" clientele.

Actual pros are more than WELCOME to chime in with their "two cents."  Thanks!

IMO I don't think there is or ever will be a shift. The size of LI is challenging. Due to the fairly recent history, LI has been underserved. There seems to be a bit of a resurgence. For that reason in addition to the ones you mention in the form of travelers and some agencies there seems to be more options. If providers establish some contacts it is reasonable to find business. It seems that most are here for a day or two.  A few multi hours do the trick - pardon the pun- just nicely.

Lots of hobbyists, convenient, clean, well priced hotels, plenty of free parking, safe, reasonably priced restaurants, bars and shopping, less competition.

I agree!!!
Ladies, let's put together that business plan and you will find that there are a significant number of hobbyists on LI that would be willing to make 'you' a regular. My last venture into NYC cost me $100.00 alone in parking and tolls

Having lived on Long Island for many years and having hobby'd in both NYC and LI I can offer the following for providers to consider.

When I was younger I preferred to hobby in NYC.  My lifestyle at the time allowed me to make "special" trips into the city for my rendezvous' and I found it was easier to find the types of experiences I was seeking in NYC.

As I got a little older the trips to NYC become more cumbersome and difficult to plan.  My lifestyle had changed (got married, had kids etc) so I found it harder and harder to plan an escape.  Impromptu or last minute dates became virtually impossible for me as well.

Instead over the last 5 or so years, I've invested some time in developing a rapport with a handful of local providers.  Some of whom call LI home, others make regular trips to the area and let me know when they are going to be in town.  Now, please understand, I had a lot of misses before I met the women that I genuinely enjoy being a regular of.  A couple of whom no longer provide openly but still see a couple of old regulars on the side when her full time job's schedule allows it.

Anyway, personally, I'd love to see more providers come out this way.  I still do find myself in NYC for business once in a while and I might try to set something up if I know I'm going to be in town.  But special excursions have all but stopped for me.

This thread particularly caught my attention as two of the women I've seen regularly for a few years have had to stop our arrangement.  One moved away and the other got married and felt it was no longer appropriate that we see each other, which I of course understood.

So I unfortunately find myself again looking to make some new friends.  :-(
