I know which direction the little pieces move, even the little horsey, but that's about it.

I hope you don't play a very good French Defense.

Playing with the Whiteread and Friedman ones must take double the concentration!

I do not play chess (I am one of those people who regularly gets mated in four moves) and I don't watch footer.  I feel so inadequate.

Not really.  Chess is very intellectual, competitive, and no one who plays likes to lose.    If I were to play that with you, it would have to be under the understanding that fun and games will take place afterward, regardless of who wins.

Then my hands get sweaty and I get all excited....

how about some backgammon?

Well if no one else takes you up on the offer, I'd love to play a match... even if it's only online...
