We could all get caught on the jumbotron together.
But, I can't recommend highly enough, the HBO Film Festival in Bryant Park. It's a great fun picnic atmosphere. I am there every week with a large group of friends. I wouldn't be able to join this group, without sacrificing my anonymity, but it is a blast. And, I suppose everyone could pretend that they were all on their own blankets and were just making friends with their neighbors. That actually happens all the time.
How about a picnic in Central Park or the Brooklyn Botanical Garden?

What does everyone think of a TER summer outing? One option that immediately comes to mind is that we all go to a Yankees game together -- I vote for a day game, because that way it'll be more festive. You know, eating cracker jacks, drinking beer, catching some sun -- it's all better for a day game.
Another option is going to Six Flags or a water park. But then again, I don't really like getting wet, so maybe we can scratch the latter. If we want to be more erudite, there's always Shakespeare in the park. Or, hey, a plain old movie. Now that I think of it, there are a lot of outdoor movies this summer in the city. That's a possibility.
Pile on with your ideas, folks. What kind of summer outing would be the most fun and cohesive for our community of merry miscreants! Whatever comes into your mind, be it silly or crazy (like my ideas), or actually plausible, let it fly!
and NOT sitting in seats looking at a screen, a stage, or a field. We want to be able to move around and meet everyone. A picnic ground or an outdoor venue we can reserve would be great.
is for a Yankee game! Sun, baseball and a hotdog... I'm all in!

But what you're proposing is an alternative to the standard M&G, and I will withhold further comment pending response from the ladies, whose ideas are key if this is to fly...
nobody has suggested a Mets game! LOL but even at a Yankee game I feel that you really will only be socializing with the two people to your left and to your right in your seat. However, there is a ferry that takes you from downtown Manhattan to Yankee stadium which takes about an hour and it is an absolutley lovely ride on a nice day and they serve snacks and drinks

Makes for a great place to meet at the end of a long summer day. They have light music playing, light food that you can order, wine bar, plenty of places to stand around mix and mingle - and a beautiful view overlooking Central Park looking west to CPW.

Everyone can bring something. Is alcohol allowed there? If there are pavilions, we could even be rain-proof. Mingling is a must and a fixed-seat venue makes that tough. I like the outdoors idea (I need to work on my tan!).
Great idea, though. Has anyone ever M&G'ed outside before?
...I would love a box at Yankee Stadium....a bit more private; a picnic/bbq at a park or someone's backyard; a catered luncheon on a deck/rooftop of a hotel; and basically, any function where where we can all get together and have some fun outside.... Hot Times in the City in the Summer.....bring it on!
Especially the daytime, public, non-seated types of events. A picnic, or something similar, would be fabulous! But if this were to happen, please do it while I'm in town! I seem to miss all the M&G's anyway...
you my dear have to be the hottes thing on two legs. I have never seen you post but all I can say is...if you end up coming to a BBQ or anything else...Im flying BACK LOL
You two ladies I can't WAIT to meet! Edrienne Cole and Cara Saint James. Or is it Cara Saint James and Edrienne Cole? Either way, God bless you two...! lol!
Can't enjoy the weather :-/ Chelsea piers have some fun activities as well.

this thread, one thing is clear at least to me. The board was getting to bland, one could set their watch to the predictabilty of the board and the days of week. Many posts were written about the New York board and its lack of interest, or interesting topics. To much talk of TGTBT and conversations of little or no bearing on US the people of NY. Whats wrong with date day? Or some fun times ? Everything has its glitches and the amount of time spent emailing writing or whatever could be spent having some fun. Looks like some girls are open to the idea ? Can Sindee bowl ? A day with blue at six flags who wants to get him WET ? And Cara falling on her butt on Roller Skates ?? Personally i want Octavia to serenade me with her guitar even if she only knows Kum bi Ahh.. And listlord doesnt anybody want to know if he laughs ?? The point is this place was like GROUNDHOG DAY !! So nothing wrong with some new ideas. And maybe fun times make for well Fun Times...
And I'm guessing you can figure that one out without too many guesses! I am a warm weather girl so I do love hiking, camping (the real kind where you hike back into the woods 5-8 miles before pitching camp), fly fishing (clean and cook my catch, love the brookies), golf (breaking in a new set of Henry Griffitts), and boating. I think sun bathing should be an Olympic sport as well... Bowling? Well, if they made cute outfits for it, I'd be more inclined to give it a whirl!
