Well Joisey gets a bad rap but it really is a nice place.

The meadowlands is a good place to stay, a number of nice hotels.

As for fun activites, well you could just get Goofy....wink.....shhhh

meadowlands/secacus is a good place to stay. close to the city also.
NJ beachs and summer music!  PNC Arts center, stone pony, hoboken is fun town. check out the link below for summer concerts in July
