When you eat high calorie foods it makes you fat. The one exception is the free samples at places like restaurants and supermarkets. At a diner, I'll grab a free handful of mints, hot hors d'oeuvres at Costco and BJs, strips of bread at Panera, and lollypops at the bank.

But, I can't recommend this way of marketing to myself and my fellow providers. Recently, in response to the offer of demonstrations of my advanced suction technologies, several  emailed asking to participate without charge... to advance the frontiers of science.

Not possible. The government has drastically cut back funding for pure research. Grants have dried up for individual inventors such as I. We must now bear the entire cost of maintaining our own labs and purchasing supplies.

The fees for demonstrating my work go to support my r&d. I need this revenue even if you are a Nobel Prize winning scientist capable of moving me to ecstasy by demonstrating the cutting edge technologies that YOU have developed.

If it's free, I'll go for the regular Pepsi since free samples are never fattening.
