ST. PAUL, Minnesota — Getting caught engaging in prostitution or soliciting sex for pay will come with a higher cost to Minnesota offenders.

A new state law permits authorities to forfeit the cash that was used in or intended for the sex solicitation. It applies to prostitutes, patrons or pimps. The law goes on the books on Thursday.

The forfeiture is in addition to other penalties offenders can face, either monetary or time behind bars.

The seized money would be split among local and state law enforcement agencies. Some would go into a fund that pays for crime victim services, including those geared toward sexually exploited youth

likely hits the pimps and providers harder than the hobbyist.  The cash in question at the time was cash the hobbyist was willing to part with anyway.  (Granted, now without benefit).  But ALL the 'cash in hand' with the pimp and/or provider will likely be considered by LE as cash in violation of the statute, (expanding the law's impact?) potentially creating a heavier hit on them.

IMO just makes more corruption likely to happen on top of the corruption that currently exists.

IMO, seizing the money or anything else from a solicitor  or provider (if caught) is a crime in itself. But, of course, LE have the right to do whatever they please, including kicking a hundcuffed person in the neck, because they are given the power to do so ( that's a joke!) I  wonder how many of those cops are corrupt themselves. Just make it leagal for a man or a woman to both engage and profit from those types of activites that we TER members enjoy!

Truely an invitation to corruption and pocket filling by LE and another way to fund out of control government spending while doing nothing to stop the trafficing and under age problem they always talk about.

Agreed.  We've already seen how these problems can happen in the case of the Metro Gang Strike Force.
