wanted to reenlist.....

I walked into my office shortly after the first plane hit. Unaware of what had happened I  was immediately summoned into the conference room with the television on. Most of us stood staring at the television unable to speak. Some of had tears as the coverage continued and the second plane hit. We were all extremely angry. Me personally, I wanted to reenlist and go fight somebody. Thirty years ago I would have done just that.

This is the first anniversary of 911 which Osama Bin Laden will be observing from the furthest dephs of hell. It is of particular comfort to me as I recall the anguishing hours not knowing where a daughter was while all planes were being grounded and she was on one of them. The day was a mix of anguish as the horrors of that day were televised, along with the incredible relief that one's own family was spared. May God bless those who have had any hand in bringing some justice into being.

I was standing in Best Buy waiting for a car stereo to get hooked up when someone said in this pompous voice, "a plane just crashed into a bulding in New York." We assumed it was an accident of some sort, just said, damn, that's fucked up, and didn't give it much thought.

When I finally got my car and couldn't turn to any radio station without hearing about how a second plane had crashed into tower 2, it started to resonate. Then one crashed into the Pentagon, and I swear, I didn't take my eyes off the sky the whole way home. I lived a mile from the airport at the time and everytime I heard the roar of a jet overhead I was nervously looking out the window. They had of course ordered all air traffic grounded by that point so planes were landing rapidly for a breif period and I was about to shit a brick, I didn't know WHAT the fuck was going on.

I remember when it finally became clear what it was all about, how angry everyone was. I mean, people who were normally completely indifferent and oblivious to all things going on in the world, who didn't care about anything unless it directly affected them, were really taking it personal. People who hated each other finally had something to agree on, personal anymosity was set aside, and there was almost perfect syncronicity amongst everyone.

Mind you, my inner circle at that time mostly consisted of hoodlums and well, people who live in the 'grey area' of life, the kind that jump out of the closet on you when you're on a TOFTT from BP - but you'd never have known the kind of people they were in the aftermath of 911 - it was all about charity and good will for everyone, for a time. A fucking dope fiend came up to my buddy with a VCR and asked if he could make a $20 donation to the charity for the families of the NYFD in trade. I would have put that right up there with 'when pigs fly'.

As horrible as the incident was, what I saw in the weeks afterward restored some level of faith in humankind for me.

And may Satan fuck Osama's dead carcass up the ass for eternity.

I had the TV on and it was all about this plane that had hit one of the Twin Towers.  Everyone thought it was an accident.  Then the second plane hit and I knew we were at war.

The plane that hit the Pentagon flew over me while I was on my way there. I thought it was kinda low but forgot about it.
When we stood in the windows of the courthouse looking at the black smoke, we still didnt know what had happened but knew something serious was up. Arlington County cop cars had gone flying by towards the Pentagon when I came into the building and I head one cop shouting "the staging area is at the Pentagon, right?"

History class, and I remember because I lived in NY state that the teachers didn't break the news til after school was over and we were leaving for the day. We didn't know when it actually happened. I saw a big cloud of dust rolling up the river as we were walking back to the house from the bus stop... it was only then when I was sort of scared of what was happening. My family was home and we sat down at the tv and saw what happened in full... no one in my family was hurt but I heard many sad stories from peers who had parents who commuted into the city.

We must always be appreciative of our service members (firemen, police, military, and other) whom we depend on when everything falls apart. God bless.

.....History class also but 7th grade (D.C.)
It was supposed to be a video day that morning in class but instead we actually watched everything happening on tv :/

I fielded hundreds and hundreds of calls from panic stricken folks who knew people in the twin towers, the pentagon or on those airplanes.   Every person I spoke with that day expressed their anguish to me.   Some were panic stricken because they could not get through on the phones to their loved ones.  Others could only cry.   Others were just plain shocked and did not say much at all.   They just needed a voice on the phone to say, "you will be okay" and "I am so sorry about your loved one and hope they are safe".    There were only a few who were at peace.     The one thing I remember is a real sense of solidarity and patriotism.   All were praying, including me.

and my first thought was, "I hope we really think this through before we respond."  My second thought was, "This is a lucky break for Bush." (On September 10, 2001, most people were in agreement that he was an idiot and screwing up the economy.  On September 12 he was acting resolute as if he knew what he was doing and people were willing to cut him some slack).

we were sitting at kitchen table, enjoying a last cup of coffee while watching morning news when the news flash come on reporting the first crash. Seemed so unusual we kept watching to hear more facts when we witnessed on live TV the 2nd crash. Needless to say, we felt frozen in our seats. We couldn't stop watching and wondering what was next. The only sounds coming from us were our breathing, mostly gasps. We were a least 50 mins late in leaving.

People became engrossed with this. It was bad, but we killed way more civilians in iraq. So I dont understand why we rally behind the govt so they could strip liberties away from us.

When i saw it, i was in  public place on campus, and said "jesus, now they will use this to pass a bunch of bullshit laws and restrict freedoms"

So I turned the channel. Some shocked people wanted to squak, I said unless someone knows someone there, shut the fuck up. There are a million atrocities that happen daily, why pick this to be in fear over when its a poor attack.

The fact that a bunch of lawbreakers want to pretend like it shook you, is just silly. Sorry if anyone actually knew someone that died. For the rest, cmon now. It was a bad attack, and the plane was hijacked thanks to incompetence of the flight crew. We didnt need to have a million freedoms pulled so private contractors (that sentators own part of) could earn trillions selling defense machines.

The doors are hard aluminum. Box cutters would not open them. Pilots should just have kept the shit closed like they are supposed to. So lets remember that. Americans dont have balls, so bad shit happens.

There's an asylum somewhere that is missing an inmate.

Explain how we should restrict freedoms of americans, and fund homeland security because two dipshit pilots opened a door to someone who could do them no harm? Come now.

Because you cant defend those points, you call me insane? Box cutters are hardly force to a guy sitting behind 1/4" thick aluminum door.

That is what should have happened. I guess its a difference in the types of people getting on a plane. Those 93 deaths are the real tragedy.

Although working around aviation, funny the flight box for the pentagon not recovered ;)

This could have been worded a bit better. But yes, we as a nation crapped our drawers and came off with the wrong response. It wasn't until 10, 11 years later that Obama came up with the right one. Terrorists are criminals, not invading armies. Go get them, and be done with it. Don't strip yourself of your freedoms. Don't get involved in a land war in Asia. Duh.

...I also second the guy that said "may satan fuck Osama bin Laden for eternity". Xcuse mi french...

Obama supporters are funny. What HR bill was it pushed by obama and the executive office to refuse american citizens due process if "suspected" of terrorism. This can be applied to any level, and there is no timeline of holidng.

It also allows homeland security to search, seize, and monitor without required judicial orders.

Obama hardly is going about that the right way either.

I was driving to work. As I'm about to do right now....
