If you do it politely and sensibly, there's really no harm in just asking.  Most that do it prefer to know in advance, so bringing it up at the "meeting" will not be quite as likely to yield results as asking appropriately beforehand.  Also, remember it's a YMMV thing that varies on a number of factors, so just because they do it sometimes with some people doesn't mean they can do it all the time, or with any sized fellow.  So I wouldn't go see someone JUST based on that being available, because it may not be.

Also, some providers specifically list a rate for it (like "50 extra for a trip to the isles") and that's a pretty obvious indication that they're willing.

I was told it seems to go in cycles for some reason...  there may be six months where it never comes up, and then six months where it's requested frequently, and nothing in between.  Not sure why that would be but I have heard that from two providers.

And finally, you may find some who just "tolerate" it and some who really like it, and that could make a big difference to the experience you have with it.
