I have read so many negative posts about using the one alias allowed for our account.  I was wondering how many are using VPN or multiple IP addresses to create more than one board account. I know there are a few doing it, is it narcissistic or some other Internet personality disorder?

I believe I read somewhere that the internet was referred to as "the domain of liquid identity." Now imagine what happens when you take your identity and pour it through a strainer. You get all these smaller personalities that function rather well because they do not need the whole to operate online. They can be turned off and on at the whim of the host identity. The perfect sense of a controlled dissociative disorder. So for those who feel the need to operate more than just an alias, yes I could see someone using multiple IPs to get more handles.  

I think people begin to look at their handles as pets. You spend all this time and effort self-defining one and then something comes up on the board and you want to post under it but feel anxiety over possibly tarnishing your handle. Then you get an alias and start posting under all those things that your handle is too good for. But then you begin to self-define that alias, then what? "No more aliases, seriously TER." "But TheFuzzyBear just posted and I want to tell him he should be hibernating, and my alias is too good for that."  

I guess I could see a provider creating an account to become a hobbyist on the board. I know for sure that you are correct and hobbyists create multiple accounts.  

I am going to call this disorder Online Dissociative Anorexia Identity Narcissism. (ODAIN, which is Spanish meaning to detest/hate)

We all want to be loved unless you thrive on being hated but then if you are hated and want to be you are digging it as well.  We also have a longing to be respected so sometimes we're honest and thus say what's on our mind because we're telling it like it is rather than considering the consequences or the hurt it may cause someone.  

Then a post is misinterpreted and something is said which may be wrong but it elicits a negative response from someone else and so it goes.  Then someone who no longer comes to the board calls someone a troll who in turn is labeled a white knight and then more feelings are hurt and the whiteknight takes his ball and goes home.  

And so it goes!!

Then we discuss the situation like adults and have a group hugfuck.  And BTW, I really miss my other aliases!!  I was really smart, well-spoken, loved, and respected!

I ran a political blog for 5 years and anonymous posters ruined it. I didn't expect real names, but some people had multiple aliases and one screen name had about 10 people posting under it.  

As for TER, I get why people want to stay under the radar, but once I established a handle on the board, I wanted to build it up. I stand by what I post on the boards, if you don't like it, that's fine, but I stand behind my words. (Unless I really F'd up and typo'd Anal for my Annual check-up, which aren't that much different these days.)

I also see this as a way to lower risk. I have been on TER for 10 years under the same handle. People on TER "know my handle and some of the ladies really "know" me in a biblical sense. My TER handle is a way for me to clear background checks and get dates. I have the same handle on P411 as I wanted the referrals to cross over. Just like I am very comfortable seeing a lady with multiple good reviews, I would assume the ladies are more comfortable seeing a guy with multiple White Listings, P411 OK's and multiple accepted reviews.

So short of a few personally sensitive posts like questions on STD's or artificial penile elongation  I don't see the need for multiple aliases. Unless you want to cause trouble, then they are GREAT!

Hate is a strong emotion to use with such a broad casting.  Are we not all alias' on this board, I am assuming you're real name is not Riley007.  Do you really hate me solely for posting under my alias?  Should what I post carry at least some weight as to your decision of liking or hating me?  Am I posting anything derogatory or offensive here to cause you to hate me?

It seems that you have a prejudice against me based only on my use of an alias vs what I write, does that seem reasonable?  Are you letting who posts outweigh what they post?

... you aren't anonymous. I despise the people that use multiple handles to reek havoc on boards. They most likely book dates under one handle, bad mouth the ladies under another, spread LE stories under a third and brag about BBFS under a fourth.

No one on TER uses their real name, but many of the people use the same handle all the time. Over the years I have gotten to know some of them and I often respect what they have to say. If Vorlon has something to say, I read it. His posts have earned my respect. I have no F'in clue who he really is, but here has a definite, consistent persona.

If you only post under TheFuzzyBear, we're cool. If you also post under ButtPlug4, NutSweat33 and AssCheese101 just to piss people off, we have issues. That is what I mean by anonymous.

Hate is a strong word. I don't hate them, but there are a large number of anonymous posters who do so simply to be a pain in the a$$.  There are legitimate reasons for using an alias, for the others...............grow a pair.

So you don't hate alias' you hate abusive poster. We are in total agreement on that.

I do only post using this name.  I do so to be free to post what I feel without my thoughts being tied to my lady friends that I've reviewed as this has been a problem in the past. I post what I think and I don't attack unless you consider asking questions an attack.  I ask in an attempt to understand some of the thought process on here. I have to tell you there are those that can't see past the alias name to actually read what is written. I find it funny and sad at the same time.

No offense but I don't automatically believe that everything I read here is true and 100% accurate. And to hate a fellow poster because of the font that is used to display their name seems a bit prejudice.   I prefer to weigh each post based on its content with very little regard to the name of the poster except to distinguish the gender of the author. And I try not to take any of these posts too serious. I tend to think that most of the guys have multiple handles. On another site I read a post where a guy claimed to have had more than 100 different handles here on TER, every one of them being banned at some point. And TER keeps reinstating him under his widely known handle. To him it's all a game.  
A wise man once said "For the most part, this place is what the people who are here make of it."  So make of it what you will.

In my early years here when the board was a vastly more unpleasant place, it was common for multiple aliases, often never before seen, appear to flame other people and generally make asses of themselves.  It was complete abuse of the system.

Fortunately, it is not nearly so bad these days and I have learned that not all aliases are used for trouble-making.

I have one handle I use for reviews, and have a lot of them. I always try to be fair, polite and respectful in my reviews - these are ladies who share themselves with us and even if things don't go well, unless it's truly a ripoff, no need to be nasty. If I see someone, I want them to feel comfortable with the way I'd review them. With my board posts, I still try to be respectful, etc., but discussion forums do mean voicing an opinion now and then, or frequently, and it's a little bit of a different ball game. At least in my mind, so I separate the two. But only two, I don't have multiples and carry on public arguments with myself through multiple aliases...although, it is starting to sound like fun.

Imo its a disservice to us in that we get to know you a bit on the forums and personalities come out. That's a good thing ... Gives me a bit more to look forward to. And unless you are being down right mean to providers or show disrespect in general to women or our profession then I welcome a strong minded/ opinionated client ... I love a healthy debate and in the end I would rather deal with someone who can voice their thoughts openly and courteously.

I understand what you're saying, and for someone who participates in the board, I think what you're saying is accurate. For others, though, I think ladies will come in and search for a handle, read the postings, and then feel they have some idea of the poster. Unless they've read all the the postings in a thread, are familiar with the other posters, my concern is that they'll take it out of context and have an inaccurate opinion instead.

Kind of like if you reply to this and call me an ignorant twit. If someone just read that posting, they might think you were being harsh. If someone had read the whole thread and my other postings they'd known you'd gone easy on me.
