"You could get a cold, the flu, mono, or the herpes virus through kissing if the other person is infected. You can also spread meningitis through saliva. Oral microbiota (found in the saliva and on the tongue) and bacteria (in the saliva) — which can lead to gum disease — can be transmitted through frequent kissing."

I want start a thread on the various risks associated with Kissing, Oral sex, etc.  I agree that BBFS is dangerous, but I think many people are kidding themselves about how much safer everything else is.

Comments?

He is no cop.  And, I don't see him as a fear monger either.   He actually wants to discuss something about the hobby.
What a novel concept on a "hobby" board.

I know.  Let's talk about the weather.  How'd you like the storms that passed through last night?  What were you
doing when the lightening struck and the windows panes shuttered?????

I read a thread about BBFS where everyone talked about how dangerous it is. I don't disagree, but then I looked at the people saying that they use condoms and are "safe". These people kiss, DATY, BBBJTCIM, DATO, etc. None of these activities are 100% safe.

I love DATY and I have never been asked to use a dental dam.  I was also surprised to learn that anal sex transmits HIV to lots of Heterosexual women. In fact, both vaginal and anal sex are more dangerous for women than men.

And why would a cop discuss STD's?  They just want to get busts, or free sex.

That the Board Chairmen  took a different  approach  on this post . Imagine if a certain someone would have thought suspicious.   Well, all would have something to say wouldn't  they.

I usually go straight to the CDC website when I'm looking things up.  Yes, there are risks with other activities but they are smaller.  You also have to consider the consequences of what you can catch; some are worse than others.

Agree completely. Just because I would never do BBFS with a provider doesn't mean I think I'm in the clear on everything else. I love to do all kinds of oral, and I select (and stay with) providers who allow it. In that case, there's an implicit understanding of risks involved by both parties.

Also, "risk" these days gets conflated with "certainty." If your risk of getting an STI without kissing is 1 in 500 (I'm not using actual statistics, just hypotheticals), and with kissing it's 1 in 250, technically your risk has doubled, which is a sexy statistic for doctors and content providers (nowadays less ethical than the providers we're talking about) to use to get attention or page views. In actuality, it's gone from 0.2% to 0.4%, which is much less dramatic.

0.4% is acceptable to me, if that's the risk I'm looking at. And if I end up in that tiny slice, then it's my responsibility, and I'll deal with it.

Don't worry. You're probably more likely to die in a car crash on the way to your appointment. :p

Not really trying to make a serious statement here. There are always risks regardless of how careful you are. Just make sure you know them and make decisions accordingly.

Have fun. Be safe.

Actually I do worry more about car accidents on my way to appointments. There would be paperwork and questions as to why I was in that area.

I have been called out a few times for seeing ladies only in certain areas, but it makes sense that I have some rational reason to be where I could get a ticket or hit by a drunk.  I also could be seen by someone I know. It happens.

I worry way less about STD's.

I think these are all very valid points. I think as we were all taught if we take the extra time and keep our own hygiene up to par it would make it much safer. Also only participating in the activities that you are comfortable with.

I personally have all of my friends take showers upon arriving. In the bathroom they will find mouth wash, mints, and when available disposable tooth brushes.
