The feds have had backpage in their sights for quite some time.  The whole SESTA-FOSTA law was all about taking this site down--and some others while they were at it.  I mean, when your revenue source is > 90% from 3rd party escort advertising and a law is passed putting criminal penalty on that with a retrospective clause--this event was a given.

Keep in mind when the investigation is sloppy, and the law banning it is just the same, the courts tend to throw out the criminal jail side of things.  I don't expect backpage coming back anytime soon.

California tried taking MJ's ferris wheel away along with Bubbles, and they couldn't even close the deal there!  Just saying - I don't expect jail for the officers of backpage - but a new chapter has arrived.

We would not have this without Jeff Sessions running the Justice Department.

Actually that is not true.  You can actually point the finger at the CA state AG, who is a woman and the TX AG.  Yes, SESTA passed Congress but this was a bi-partisan bill with only 2 Senators voting "no." If you read the bill you would also see a letter attached from the DoJ who had some strong objections.

There is no point in making it a political issue.  Once signed into law, IP and free speech attorneys will be fight this out in court.

This passed with all liberal senators voting for it. No liberal state in the union has legalized prostitution. The only party consistently for individual freedom is the Libertarian party, or libertarian individuals. Democrats and liberals hate hate hate individual freedom.

There is a backpage.ly now.  Apparently Libya is ok with this freedom of expression....

I know it is pretty early, but has anyone talked about a challenge in court?  It would seem to violate the "freedom of the press" in the Constitution Bill or Rights.

Not yet as it hasn’t been signed into law. BP was seized by the FBI, the shutdown isn’t a result of FOSTA/SESTA.

Im wondering if they Trump will just let it sit on his desk and let the 90 day grace period go by so it automatically becomes law....
