Excuse me if this has already been discussed, but I'm sure most of us are aware of the new legislation on massage providers in the city of Minneapolis.  Basically, it seems as though you either must acquire a license from the city, OR be working at a licensed facility.  From poking around and looking at the application, this is no easy task.

Regardless of the rationale the city has for requiring this, what are the body rubs / FBSM massage providers going to do?

-apply for and get the license?
-quit the business?
-work UTR and hopefully not get caught?
-Move to another suburb/city?
-other?

I'm super curious, as I would think it will be REALLY easy for the city to enforce this legislation, especially since the means of advertising these services are pretty public.

I also wouldn't be surprised if BP and/or CL get pressure from city to provide a license # in order to post in the massage / body rubs section.

Just wanted to start a healthy discussion here, as I'm a huge fan of FBSM and prefer it greatly over FS (yes I have my reasons :))

Thus far they really haven't buckled to any pressure from any government body.  CL is another story..

Cl does require a license number in some states however they don't check if it's legit so a lot of good that does...
In order to place an ad in the city pages here they require your massage certificate and licensure information as well as ID to prove you're of age, I advertise there too at times but prefer online because the paper doesn't generate as much response since more people are online than reading the newspaper.
Personally I don't think a license requirement stops anyone but the therapeutic only practitioners from affording their businesses.
Would of made more sense to legalize it all & go from there as it's not practical .

Marketing myself as a Healing Touch (TM) provider. Which is energy work, and doesn't actually require a license. Plus screening new clients thoroughly and crossing my fingers! Frustrating though.

There are cities that when they start regulating "massage" parlors.. The Parlors just start switching wording.. We don't offer massage but touch therapy, reflexology, etc.  Some will even refuse you service if you ask for a "massage".

The results being the same.. my nekkid body getting rubbed before some extra service play at the end.

Places that did not require it until now ... Most cities and states around the country it's required however there are still massage/body rub ladies and BP still allows them to post.

Most of the Lake Lyndale girls that were any good have left and are working when they can moving around place to place in the warehouse district. Not available as much as they have been but probably for the better. Some of the NE girls are saying they are something else like mentioned above so I guess they are safe - they just planned ahead.

I doubt the city of Minneapolis would make them feel threatened.

Move around and/or choose the location of their incall very carefully and don't advertise it.

Regardless of what you call it, in the legislation they've defined it pretty broadly:

"Massage and bodywork means, for the purposes of this ordinance, any method of applying pressure on, or friction against, or rubbing, stroking, kneading, tapping or rolling of the external parts of the human body with the hands or with the aid of any mechanical or electrical apparatus, appliance or device with or without such supplemental aids as rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol, liniment, antiseptic oil, powder, cream, lotion, ointment or other similar preparation. The practice of massage and bodywork shall not include and is distinct from the practice of medicine, surgery, osteopathy, chiropractic, physical therapy or podiatry. This includes, but is not limited to many manual therapies, such as massage therapy, Asian bodywork therapies or movement therapies. While these are recognized as separate disciplines, all are subject to the massage and bodywork establishment license ordinance."

Looks like they've thought of EVERYTHING.  So..... that approach won't work..at least not within the boundaries of the legislation :(

Tantric massage is legitimate and taxable too.
People hiding under the guise of a chiropractor aren't left out either it seems .
Another reason why this legislation isn't practical.

It would be nice to be able to tell the difference between the two sides of the coin though, it's hard for a lady like myself to find a massage of my caliber that isn't stuffy or part of a larger operation .
Imagine the ladies faces when I stroll into an AMP for a TS & ashiatsu massage not wanting a happy ending lol

Exactly . All that does is push things further underground when they could be somewhat profiting off of that by legalization like other countries do.
I feel the same way about marijuana.

Were suppose to have escort licenses in MKE, but they are impossible to get. Arizona too. They can kiss my ass with all of this BS legislation.

Making a law you can't comply with makes for easy convictions and harassment. The easy way out, if we can't get you one way we'll get you another.

Why do you say it is a law that can't be complied with?
