This new bill might be the start of an insane law that should have never been passed...or in the right direction.

The bigger problem is that FOSTA allowed various people to score cheap political points by pushing the human trafficking angle just like we see in so many news stories about assorted busts and stings LE makes.  These people don't care about facts and logic otherwise they never would have voted for FOSTA as the problems it has caused were obvious beforehand.  It's a worthwhile effort but I don't expect anything to change for quite some time.

I agree, but if I remember, contacting a politician was useless because of this issue around that time. The group that started the campaign for this law attached the lie about the "trafficking" of humans/women.

... is a great response. I agree that it's probably not going to happen in my lifetime; the US is NOT a forward-looking country on many issues. Many influential groups/people on the let's include this part as "trafficking."

When this bill started to make its way, several well-known billionaires contributed to their cause. A year ago, the same group was trying to add more laws to FOSTA.

I had a conversation with an escort back then about this law; this is a story she told me. One of her regular clients did vote for this law. After she found out, he still wanted to see her, but she ripped him a new A-hole on his voting for it.

This happens, and these young girls get abused again while seeking help. These very young/underage girls are 100% trafficked.

fucked up it will be.  This IS how government works.  Time and time again, a good idea goes to committee, gets changed, goes to other committees and so on.  The final product usually looks nothing like the original concept.  In this case, they'll likely make matters worse as well as attach other stupid shit to the bill that has nothing to do with sex work.

ALL the more reason for hobbyists to be aware of their surroundings at all times and to minimize any chance of getting caught up in any "organized" sex ring busts.  Again, I do not think the go-to handlers are engaging in sex [human] trafficking but as the new laws apply to this activity, the risk of someone getting smeared are higher than they've ever been.

Cleavers.....

I dont know how old you are.  But to say never in a lifetime might be too much.

One thing going for SWer's is that the popularity of the OF type things going on.  This is a form of sex work....ie: posting pics or doing "chats" or selling content.  It is sending something sexual for money.   Before there was Porn and then Adult mags.  Which were "limited" where they were sold and what not.

Well with the OF and many people jumping on this trend.  It is pushing SW into the forefront.  Which banking, money, etc laws need to be looked at and what not.   Because if a girl is selling a vid of her playing with a dildo (and this could just be simulating a HJ).... that is selling "sex".

I received a grant to participate in the first attempt at sex workers lobbying of Congress.  After meeting with a handful of reps and more commonly their staffers, we found quickly that  literally no one supported this bill.  Literally no one.  It was an attempt by republicans to gain a few votes in swing states under the belief that a few democrats would stand against the “intent” of the bill and vote for common sense and for what they knew would be right.   However the bill was pitched in the media as “an anti-trafficking” initiative particularly aimed at preventing the trafficking of minors.   If however the votes didn’t swing the authors would at the very least be champions for introducing a bill that helped put an end to such trafficking.  So win win situation for those in favor of it and well lose lose lose for anyone in sex work or someone actually being trafficked.  Everyone I personally met with acknowledged this and was not happy that they felt forced into voting in favor of it,  something I would assume is all too common.   They also expressed sympathy towards us but in the end said it would be years and years of work to undo the bill and therefore it probably won’t ever happen.   Yay!   Another instance of sex workers being scapegoated for gain although this time political not financial.

Onlyfans was going to ban explicit content at one point last year.  They reversed that decision fortunately but I am sure there are those who want it investigated as many sex workers do use it.

My age? Well, I'm sundowning, so not too long. When FOSTA was working its way thru, I remember that some thought that there was no way this would pass.

Even with OF, it seems to be the same group of slugs that categorize it as trafficking...so forth and so on. I wonder "if" code 230 would change what that means to all of this?

No one wants to face an ad accusing them of not being for efforts to stop trafficking.  I don't expect it to change in my lifetime.

Can we change that though?

Is there a way to help people to understand that our current laws do much more harm than good?

Not until people think instead of reacting with their emotions and actually analyze things.  Right now, so many people equate sex work with trafficking.

And somehow we need to change that.
