You're moving to Detroit at just the right time. The city really is on the rebound.
In addition to London Chop House and Caucus Club being reopened in downtown Detroit, there is a new steak restaurant called The Highlands that just opened on top of the Renaissance Building with amazing view of Metro Detroit and Windsor, Canada. In the suburbs are Capital Grille at Somerset Collection. Morton's Steakhouse and Ruth Chris are just down the street from Capital Grille. There is also Big Rock Chophouse in nearby Birmingham.
Every Memorial Day weekend, there is the Movement Electronic Music Festival that draws top techno artists from around the world. If you like country, then there is Faster Horses Festival every July in Brooklyn, Michigan, which is about an hour west of Detroit. Also, the International Auto Show is scheduled to take place in June in downtown Detroit. Finally, around metro Detroit, there seems to be an ethnic festival every weekend: Polish festival, Italian festival, Greek festival, etc., as well as various art festivals that are much smaller than the Ann Arbor Art Festival, but still nice places to chill out on a weekend afternoon.
As for the casinos, they won't compare to Las Vegas, but MGM Grand seems to be the nicest of the three followed by either Motor City Casino and Greektown depending on one's preference.
Finally, some nice places to visit and just stroll, find nice restaurants, or bar hop are nearby Ann Arbor, Royal Oak, and Birmingham. If you're really adventurous, then you should make a road trip 3 hours west of Detroit to Lake Michigan where there is a beautiful shoreline dotted with beautiful beaches and mall towns like St. Joseph, South Haven, Saugatuck, Grand Haven, Traverse City, etc. Welcome to Michigan!
