The Green River Killer:
Ridgway's contempt for women in general and prostitutes in particular was clear in his plea bargain statement:
"I picked prostitutes as my victims because I hate most prostitutes and I did not want to pay them for sex. I also picked prostitutes as victims because they were easy to pick up without being noticed. I knew they would not be reported missing right away and might never be reported missing. I picked prostitutes because I thought I could kill as many of them as I wanted without getting caught."
The Genesee River Strangler:
"Once a killer like this is captured," writes McCrary, "we always compare him against our profile. Shawcross was much as we had envisioned him."
He was a regular john, white, married, menially employed, living near the pick-up scenes, with a history of sexually violent crimes. He often fished in the Genesee River Gorge and he'd gone unsuspected by most of the prostitutes. The profilers had gotten his age wrong by ten years or so, but they viewed his time spent in prison as tantamount to putting his sexual crimes on hold. Once freed, he'd resumed as if he'd never been put away.
Girls, we are in serious danger. My incident in Los Angeles has really brought into focus how easily I could have been a victim of far worse. I am seriously considering forming an association for us ladies that will somehow be helpful in many different ways for protection, legal services, health services, child care, insurance, counseling, trauma/crisis recovery, and more. I can't do it alone though. I need help from providers and hobbiest as well. Any attorneys out there who would contribute legal advice or services, psychologists who might offer research work, doctors, other professionals .... This has been a one sided business for two long. I think with the arrival of TER we can form a network that will help provide security and a sense of sanity out of the madness. Another way to help is any providers who would volunteer in crises counseling ....
I will call it Mary Magdeline Ministries, MMM for short. Not because of religious reasons, but because the definition of "minister" is to help or assist in a benevolent manner, those in need or distress.
Now, who's willing to minister with me?
