Día de los Santos Reyes (Three King's Day) – January 6th

In Mexican tradition children receive gifts on the Three Kings Day, not on December 25th. This festival correlates to the day the Biblical Three Wise Men or Magi brought gifts to Jesus while he lay in the manger. The custom of Santa Claus bringing gifts to children has also become commonplace and now children receive gifts on either or both days.

Tradition indicates that on January 5, the night before Three Kings Day (the Epiphany , a festival celebrating the manifestation of the divine nature of Jesus to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi), whoever gets one or more of the few plastic or metal dolls (originally coins) buried within the Rosca de Reyes bread must throw a party on the Día de la Candelaria (Candlemas Day) which is celebrated on Februay 2nd. (The Rosca de Reyes bread is a wreath of sweet bread with contains a plastic doll or similar object representing the baby Jesus. It is cut with a knife symbolizing the danger Jesus faced at this birth due to Herod.

In Tijuana el Día de los Santos Reyes is celebrated with a parade on Paseo de los Héroes in Zona Rio.

way too many reports of Norteamericanos being attacked on the beaches, hiways, everywhere, by phony cops, plain thugs, and neither I nor the consulate are confident that the cops are that much better.

It seems worse for the locals.  One of my employees came in saying that a 3rd degree relative had been kidnapped for his petty business, and asked $1M ransom, and they're often killed anyway.   Looks like the reason the money is not flowing north any faster is that nobody can sell anything in TJ.
