So I'm flying to Japan next week and I wanted to try the "Soapland" experience in Tokyo.
Any of you international mongers have any experiences/recommendations for any "gaijin"  
(non-Japanese/foreigner) friendly shops in Tokyo?

Very outdated info, so try to get updates. It used to be very difficult for a gaijin to get service in Japan, especially if you do not speak Japanese. If you have an understanding native Japanese colleague, that could be a tremendous help.  Also, watch out about going into the bars and clubs (often with a tout outside to usher you in) w/o a Japanese speaking companion. They will get you to rack up a huge bill in no time and they will collect.

Don't know if you have a chance to visit soaplands. Like one of the reviewer stated, you will have a better luck if you have a japanese speaking friend. The experience was great for me. Initially , they refused to see me because they fear that foreigners are either too big or "impure". There is an underlying sense of racism, though $ is universal and will open communication if you are yourself. My advice, you will have better chance outside of Tokyo.
