I won't mention a name here but did anyone get an email purporting to be from a well reviewed Maryland provider talking about getting robbed at gunpoint in the Philippines and wanting people to lend her money to get home?

I'm trying to figure out if it was real.

I considered it an obvious scam and assumed her email had been hacked.

Certainly seems that way.

A few months ago the exact same thing was happening on facebook, with the same scenario and even location, and the "friend"s who were in such dire straights actually didn't even realize that their facebook accounts were sending out these messages.  So, in regards to the provider you received the email from, it doesn't sound like she personally tried scamming anyone and I'd pretty confidently say she probably doesn't have a clue that you received the email!

I hope no one fell for this SPAM email and sent this person money.

It came from Ymail and her email is Yahoo.

Her computer was hacked.  She is sorry for those emails went out.  She is still trying to get her computer fixed from this

I got this email 3 times.

I hate when this happens to people.   It just sucks

You may want to PM her and give her your contact information if you so desire!

Thanks to all those who called to check on me.  I got the same email which alerted me to the problem.  I spent hours yesteday with tech support updating all my security and passwords so we should be fine for now.  The only person I have EVER asked for money was my Mother and she is getting paid back with interest!

I know this is not an ad board but just to let you know, I now have a full time day job which is keeping me pretty busy.  I still need your love but must have at least a day's notice.  Calendar is at website as always.

Much love and kisses, Kaylie

Had one of my hobby email accounts raided about 18 months ago.

As soon as I found out I copied out all of my contact info into an excel spreadsheet and password protected it.

I then put up a "vacation message" that would auto-reply to folks, if they tried responding to me,
stating that the account was raided and that they should not open any further messages from that email address.

The account is still active but I don't use it any longer. I also removed the contact lists from all my other email accounts. It's a small pain to go and get email addresses from the spreadsheet but I think it helps protect those I might want to contact.
