That's funny....I actually watched it last night on Netflix. I hated it...first, I think they pick the saddest cases to profile and second, they are all hard to look at. Being a hobbyist for years, I've met all types of providers and have yet to meet any like these. I find it curious why they don't interview attractive providers who aren't necessarily from the "streets." I wouldn't recommend it, but like most things in life....taste is subjective.

Happy viewing.

I watched it and enjoyed it.  Some of the stories are hard luck, some aren't.  Couple of them sound more like survivors, others sound like they found their calling.  If your looking for a film with tons of hot 20somethings pass on it.  If you're looking for something with somewhat older women looking back over their careers and sharing their insight you might find it interesting.  It's more documentary than  titilating.  More serious than fun.

and anyone who participates in this hobby.
All the ladies interviewed are real TER provider produced by a real TER provider.
They were willing to share the stories of the lives and experiences on camera.
I don't think many of the more "attractive ladies" would be willing to expose their lives so publicly as did these ladies.  If you wanted hotter looking ladies, then contact Playboy to produce something more eye appealing.

Their stories are gritter than the storyline of Pretty Woman but some of their stories takes places  before TER made an impact in the hobby.  There was no whitelisting, no P411 or reference checks.  These ladies just saw a guy and  hoped he was ok.  I remember those times and it makes you appreciate how well we have it on here now.

One concept the documentary showed to me, which has been true from my own experiences, is how real and honest people can be in this without the fear of judgement or resentment from each other.  Which is something that is not done as freely in our civil-lives as it is in this.

So, we all should be thankful for this play ground and let's have some fun!!!

I watched it and really liked it. But then again, I tend to like documentaries. I don't think it was intended to be depressing.

I think that it was trying to show how our society tolerates and in some ways encourages abuse towards sex workers and also, that many sex workers do in fact come from humble backgrounds. Contrary to what was mentioned above, no, many of the women featured were not street-workers at the time of the filming. Rather, they were working in the mid-range, some even in the higher-end, capacities, despite some of them having started out on the street in the beginning of their careers.

Also contrary to what was said above, I think that a lot of the women featured were really beautiful, inside and out-not that that really matters for this business. (As long as a woman meets a certain baseline level of attractiveness, I think that is all that's needed to be a provider).

I think the documentary isn't something one should watch if they're looking for a glamorized version of what the work is, but something more humanizing.

Searching for a movie to watch last night I found this documentary named "American Courtesans" on Netflix , I wanted to watch it but the reviews were either really good or really really bad saying it was a very sad and dumb doc so I passed because I have a really happy and fun view on this lifestyle and I don't want it to be ruined.

 Anyone has seen it?

In LA. Was invited by Ms. Juls of Teatro Erotica fame who appeared in it, and went to the after party where I met more of the ladies appearing. I'd already seen two of them personally and became friends with a couple more after the show. Kristen did a great job and the doc is well worth watching. Ultimately positive and life affirming. However, the featured stories came across a little "victim-y". I would have preferred to have the featured stories be those from the ladies who entered the business more for fun and profit than out of initial desperation. That said, you should still see it.

I could imagine that the makers of the movie, as most journalists, were biased and therefore created a very one-sided documentary, neglecting many aspects to it. Perhaps the people behind it had an agenda in their mind. However, it certainly is not fair at all to show only the 'tragically ended- up women' in this business. I now have to watch this movie myself!

I don't think it was meant to be a glamor piece. It was meant to be an accurate look at the experiences of these women who had been in the industry for various amounts of time & for various reasons. No, they didn't shy away from the abuse cases - because it happens.

For the first 30mins of footage I was thinking that this was going to be another one of those "look how the adult industry damages women" type of docs... but as the interviews went on, my opinion changed. It was actually a very positive look at how this can be a very empowering career to have.... even if your start in it was less than happy.

I think it was very well rounded. If you're looking for a puff piece, go watch an episode or two about the Bunny Ranch, because this isn't a puff piece.... but it is realistic, and I personally think it's refreshing to have something that isn't biased from the POV of an anti or trying to make everything look glamorous & as though we are living perfect lives in the lap of luxury. It's real.

That might be too much for some people to watch, and I get that. It's a fantasy world, for the clients, and rightly so.. but I think it's a wonderful film & one that makes some very important and relevant social commentary (which concerns hobbyists, too). The film didn't portray providers as being completely helpless and hapless... even the ones who were victimized. It humanizes providers in a way that other activist films haven't... very refreshing!

Sexy Lilly -

I sure am!! Missed you at the M&G the other night. I was under the impression that you were supposed to be there but you couldn't have been, or I'd have seen you there! We need a reunion soon! Lots to catch up on.

It's good to hear other views on a subject.  I don't feel that this movie will change your happy and fun view on your lifestyle if you're truly happy doing what you do.

However, don't expect greatness watching this documentary.  It could have been done much better, but it was definitely watchable for me.

I had personally seen one of the subjects in the film, so I was interested in seeing her in the film.  I was at the the premiere and several of the ladies featured in the were in attendance.  That was a cool experience for me as well at the Q&A afterward.  I don't attend many film events where the director or stars of the film are in the audience

I do not think most girls want to be filmed. All those in the documentary were retired or soon to be
