...west; Sunset on the north and Venice on the south.  "West side of LA" is a vague term and, as Astra says, can include other incorporated cities.

When one says she is on the West Side of LA, where does that reference?
How far is that when I am in Santa Monica?
Thanks.....
Not from around there.......!

I would say West of the 405.
North of of the 90 (Marina del Rey Freeway)and
South of the 405 pass (Santa Monica).

Well I would give them as far east as WESTwood but it gets stretched some .   Really an issue at the end of the work day when it can take an hour to get to Beverly Hills

Ocean which falls between Valley (from north) and Southbay (South LAX) is considered West LA.

Very strictly speaking, here are the boundaries of WLA (link below). I suppose you could call this the "heart" of WLA.

But I don't know anyone who considers the area to be that small. Most Angelinos will tell you it's anything west of La Brea or La Cienega - with subset neighborhoods being Westwood, Brentwood, Century City, etc.

Is Santa Monica considered WLA? Not really. I wouldn't tell anyone, "I'll meet you in WLA," if I meant Santa Monica.

That's actually really interesting to me- I've been out here 7 years, and before actually seeing it drawn out, I would have guessed that "west LA" extended it down to the 105, at least.  Maybe the 91.

Obviously not.
